Delhi and National Capital Region woke up to a thick blanket of smog on Tuesday morning. Air Quality dropped rapidly. Increase in smog. Low visibility! Pollution levels surpassed moderate standards multiple times. In fact, Agra-Noida-Yamuna Expressway this very morning had a deadly accident. Over dozen cars ramming into each other one after the other. Hence, Indian Medical Association has declared public health emergency! We are urged to not to venture out unless necessary and not without masks. Delhi schools are shutting down. Athletes, morning walkers/joggers, marathons being asked to stay put at homes as smog is worse in the early hours. I don't want to say anything as I have nothing good and appropriate to say on this matter.
IMA President Dr K K Aggarwal declare Public Health Emergency in Delhi/NCR due to Air Pollution!

We had a warning for polluted air at the end of October. No rain, plenty of cars on the roads and the fog had degraded the quality of the air. With the rain the problem has been solved.

I thought it was only India that experiences such a thing. I am surprised that this problem exists all over the world.

@Daljinder You are right, rain is only a temporary solutions. Many places in the world need active measures. It's already too late.

@LadyDuck No rains in sight. And rain is a temporary solution and unpredictable at best. We need active measures here.

I was seriously thinking of developing a device to pull out the remaining part of the crop instead of burning it. Smog can be from vehicles, no doubt. But I doubt if vehicles alone can make it so dense. It has to come from elsewhere as well, with wind.

@vandana7 Farmers burning crops! Both Haryana and Punjab. They said they don't have right means to dispose off stuff they burn and they can't afford the ones that are available. They were neck deep in debt already. That was before farmers went on strike all over the nation. Hence the farmer loans are being waived off / written off. I think Maharashtra, Punjab and even Karnataka did.

@Daljinder That is horrible! What is it like now? Reminds me of how Japan can be with their air.

I know how polluted air of Delhi is. I had been in Delhi for sometime few years ago and the air was terrible. I caught respiratory disease when I was there. Now I don't want to stay there at any cost.

@Peach10 Too much pollution mixed with winter fog. Not to forget smoke coming from farmers burning the waste crops. It just snowballed from there
