Knee Pain

One of my knees hurts almost constantly. It can go so badly that I cannot walk. A year ago I took a fall from it. This week I read in Woman's World Magazine that knee pain often is caused by tight hip joints. It suggested the "butterfly stretch" where one sits on the floor, puts soles of feet together and pulls heels as close as possible to the body. I realized today that there is a specific time most days when I can do this. Around noon each day I sit in an empty classroom while a young physically challenged person lays on a mat on the floor to rest. I did the butterfly stretch, and some other flexibility stretches. I have some sore places but I am happy with it. I am thankful that there is time for that kind of self care in my day.

I'm impressed that you can sit on the floor. You are tons more flexible and capable than me.

The getting down is not too bad, but the getting up can be embarrassing.

@GardenGerty Getting down on a floor or the ground is like doing a fall off the cliff maneuver for me. Terrifies me and almost more than I can do. Takes horrible concentration for me to do that cause I know the pain is going to be nasty.

Take care. There are several creams made to soothe pain, even old Menthol ones.

Yes, there certainly are. It is funny how the "new" and popular ones many times have the same ingredients as the old reliable ones.

It's good to hear you can do that still. i have knee problems and my hips hurt now too. My back aches during the night and the tops of my legs too. I can still touch my toes and walk OK but I cannot sit on the floor or lie on the floor as getting down and up again is extremely difficult.

I am sure looking at me getting up is a frightful image, but I am in a darkish room and the little kid resting is partially blind. I do not understand why, but I seem to hurt more at night as well.

@GardenGerty LOL. I would think that a night of rest would make things easy but my pain is waking me at night.

Me too. It seems to make my day more energized, even though it is around noon.

You might also want to try some pain relief cream with lidocaine in it.

That sounds a good idea. I might try that as I seem to be getting more and more stiff.

I used to be very flexible and since I do have this time in my day, I figure it may help.

I've often put the soles of my feet together when in bed, but didn't know it was called the butterfly stretch. I still get knee pain, though.

I try to always wear the right shoes, have good insoles, exercise, etc. and it still happens. I hope to make it better if not make it completely go away.

There are some physiotherapy exercises that have been recommended to me for strengthening my knees. Pulling heels is one of them.

The stretching seems to be helping both my knee and my sciatica nerve.

I hope the butterfly stretch helps. I didn't know that's what the pose is called until I read this.

Yes, I am just quoting the article, but it makes sense to call it that.

I'm glad you found something that works. My knee pain is all arthritis.

I have arthritis in a few places. I also feel that that is the common answer from doctors for most pain.

That is nice that you can fit that in at work. I hope it helps your knee.; but good to keep flexible at any rate.

Thanks for the information. I am also suffering from knee pain. A fortnight back I hit against a table and the knee is paining me severely now. I will do it now and see if I get any relief from the pain.

Oh, it sounds like you may have a bad bruise. Has it turned colors? If you have an injury do not neglect it.

@GardenGerty I hit by a table edge. At that time I simply rubbed over it. After a fortnight it started paining me. There is slight swelling and it is paining me. However, you made a point. I forgot to do yoga. I think butterfly stretch will fix the problem. From tomorrow I want to do it.

My chiro says it is one thing, the doc says it may be a torn meniscus. Either way, no money for surgery, so I have to just work it out.

The exercise does not help for the pain, but it helps in gaining in flexibility.

It depends on the source of the pain, but yes, I need more flexibility. I also need to not be sitting in my computer chair all of the time.

@GardenGerty I know that I should sit at my computer less hours. I try to maintain a correct posture, but I know that not all the time I sit correctly.
