No Thanksgiving with family

So my mother in law called tonight and informed me she isn't going to invite us for Thanksgiving this year. She invited other people instead but didn't want us mad. I honestly don't care because we bought our turkey already anyways. Even my husband said he didn't care and she said we would have a big Christmas. We both shook our head to that one because I remember no one got me or Dean anything and everyone else got something. So I don't know about Christmas. It is what it is.

I'd rather have a Thanksgiving with just my other half than deal with either of our families.

when you have a husband and child that is your family. Make dinner and enjoy the night.

I think you and your husband should just make plans of your own. It's fun to plan a Thanksgiving meal, for three! As for Christmas? Enjoy your day at home, or join some good friends, for an afternoon of enjoyment!

I have never quite understood this kind of thing. And these are the type of folks who then accuse you of taking things personally. I'm sorry this has happened to you. But, I will say that some of the best holidays I've had are when I decided to do something by myself and/or travel elsewhere and do things "untraditionally." Hugs and much love to you!

@carebear29 No matter how "used to it" we may be, it still affects us.

That's so awful of her. When my husband hosted events, he accepted everyone that was family. He never not invited anyone. That didn't mean people that came were nice. I remember being 8 months pregnant and being shunned and insulted by his family at thanksgiving. Then when I was 9 months pregnant having contractions on New years (My baby was due January 1st mind you!) I was yelled at for not doing enough! So.. we did move away to avoid the family drama. Sometimes its really for the best to not have to deal with people who are that rude for holidays.

WOW that's cold-blooded if you ask me that she rather have someone other than her family for Thanksgiving that's not right but hey if you don't care then I guess I can understand why.

I just don't understand why she would want to do something like that. I agree that I would go ahead and make plans for thanksgiving and Christmas too. Not even waiting for her invite you to Christmas. If she expects the two of you to wait around on her to make the decisions for the holidays then make her think again. and when she tries to make plans with you i'd say Oh we already made plans. sorry.

That's strange but why she didn't invite you. It's better to not to think of her but enjoy with your family.
