I make sure I don’t hurt my mother

I’m not in the best shape of mind right now. I get agitated with little things that never used to bother me. Like my mother’s never ending babble...It makes me want to shout sometimes and no she doesn’t nag, she’s just used to telling me stories of how her day went...very detailed stories...I live with my mother because we’re still saving up for out own place and it’s definitely way practical than renting room. So just seconds ago she was sharing her experiences about the seminar she attended yesterday...and I was doing my project in taskmasters and grading my students while also typing responses here... the longer she talked the annoying it seemed to me. So I had to stop what I was doing and tried to calm my mind while drowning out her voice but pretending to listen...sometimes I feel like such a bad person for feeling annoyed with my mother who has never done anything bad to me...but I try and console myself that at least I make sure I don’t show it because I know it will break her heart... Does this ever happen to you too? Is it better to pretend so I won’t hurt her? Or should I be honest and break heart? She’s already 55years old and she gets easily hurt with anything I do that for her would seem like I don’t love or want her anymore.

Do you have a room where you can go to work?

Yes, I do have my own room but she’s used to just barging in when my husband isn’t around.

Sometimes we have to control over our anger for the sake of our loved ones so that they may not get hurt because of it.

I had issues with my Mom during all my life due to her continuous babble. She just cannot understand when you are busy and you have no time to listen.

I also have issues with my own Mother and to be honest we are not on good terms. It was all started when I got sick 3 years ago. I found out that she is irresponsible Mother and selfish. She always has her moments every day by yelling at my Brothers and babble most of the time.

That’s sad, I actually don’t have any grudges with my mother because she’s the greatest that’s why I feel like such a bad person for getting annoyed with her...

I think it's normal to get frustrated with any roommate sometimes.People have different plans, and you can't read each other's minds. It doesn't mean you're a bad person, just human. But I think that venting here is better than hurting your mother. Learn from this experience. The next time you need to work on something, maybe you could say something like "Okay Mom, I'm going to work on this now. I need 30 minutes of quiet time, because I get distracted too easily!" Do you think that might help?

Thanks for your insight. I don’t think she’d understand though because I used to be okay with it, I mean ever since I can remember she and I would talk while I’m working with something, she used to call me all the time when I was aways for college and I would tell her that I’m working on a school report and to just continue talking, and when I started working here in the province she would do the same and it didn’t really bothered me but its just recently that I get irritated with any noise when I’m working...so I’ll just continue holding it in I guess
