I Need to go to the Drawing Board

As much as I love writing, there are times when the plot just seems to elude me. Perhaps I have one, but somehow, I don't think I do. Oh the story sounds good, but it's beginning to feel like it's going to fall apart if I don't find a definite direction soon for it to go towards. I tried to get that injected today. It's definitely time to brainstorm with what I have and see what I can do with this story. I really don't want it to fall flat on its face. That's the one good thing about doing NaNoWriMo - you just keep writing, and work in the plot as it emerges. Next month will be working with whatever plot I come up with and weave it into the story to make it sound like it is worth reading. Current word count - 34,884 How is your day? Thanks for reading.

They say to keep plugging away. I would have the plot in mind before I put the fist word in print.

@DianneN I always have fun when it comes to writing, just like you always have fun when it comes to shopping

I thought I did, but it's going in a completely different direction than what I foresaw - the problem when characters are in control of the book - called Character Driven versus Plot Driven. So every day is an adventure.

My day has been fine. Quiet except for the hundreds of teenagers thing.

Thank you. It's going well, but I really do need to find out where the book is headed. I'm sure it's already there, I just need to bring it into the open.

No, I won't need to start over. Once I figure it all out, I can weave it into the storyline where it's at, then when I finish, do the revision with that in mind. It'll all work out.

Way to go! you are really writing. For me I have to have the plot first and then allow it to unfold.

I thought I did have a plot, but it's unraveled.

Ah this is probably no help at all, but I know I have always enjoyed books , mysteries, where it turns out that the quietest , most off - in - a -corner character actually turns out to be the main protagonist

I did originally have a plot, but that has gone by the wayside, so hopefully something will emerge soon. Thank you.

It's going great! I'm at 38K+ and will be back to it soon. I intend to be at 40K before I go to bed tonight and hopefully even more than that. As I was writing yesterday, I started having a feeling of where the story is now headed. That makes me happy.

@just4him I always like to have some kind of idea of where a story is going. Of course, in the beginning the destination is a bit hazy but then all of the sudden it seems to take on a life of its own.

@just4him Valerie, do you bounce off ideas with someone or talk to yourself until you feel you have something? What is NaNoWriMo?

Basically I talk to myself about ideas and work them out in my head before anything is put to the blank canvas on the Word document. NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writer's Month. It's the month of November. So there is a writing challenge that takes place every November to write 50K words in 30 days.

That's true. My character keeps asking questions. She wants to go home - back to Earth, but so far, she's been told - not going to happen.
