I woke up today with Christmas on my mind. Every year I make a little gift for each of my loved ones. This year it is gifts in a jar. It's time for me to get all the ingredients packed into the mason jars so I can then move on to making the recipe cards for each one and decorating them. Because I make them to fit the individual in each case I end up with all of the jars being very different from each other. I only have to get a couple of more items before I can finish the last few jars and then can move on to the creative part of the gift. Christmas will be here before we know it. Do you make handmade gifts for anyone at Christmas?

I have been doing it for years. At first it was a necessity because of funds, now it's because it has become a tradition.

This is a great idea. We do not exchange gifts anymore. No stress, only fun for Christmas.

We don't exchange gifts either. That's why I make something for each person. It shows them how much I appreciate them all year long.

I wish I had the time because I would do this, but I just don't right now. I am sure your gifts will be loved by all! =)

I'm not good at handmade crafts but they are the best gifts. You'll have to show us a picture of the end product when your finished.

I used to do that. When we stopped exchanging gifts as a general rule I wanted to make little gifts to them.

I am starting to think about slowing down some on this. It gets harder every year.

That sounds like a great idea. I haven't yet. Wait, yes I did a couple years ago when I made pillows for everyone with the Fruit of the Spirit on them, one for each pillow. It might be good to come up with something for this year. I'll need to get my thought processes into action if I do. Right now my thoughts are on the word challenge for National Novel Writer's Month - NaNoWriMo. I'm sitting at 35K+ of 50K.

@HazySue I got a wish catalog in the mail a couple days ago, and it gave me some good ideas for gifts. I'm going to check at the Christian bookstore to find out if they have what was in the catalog.

I am thinking that with all the writing going on you may not have the time to make anything for gifts. I believe the writing is more important.

How wonderful of you to knit a sweater for your niece. I fill the jars with the dry ingredients of a chosen recipe that they will like. Some of the ingredients are spices, flour and such.

I am not very crafty so most of my gifts are store bought. I have made food items for people before as a treat and they always enjoyed it. My sister always gives me bottles of her various preserves. I always look forward to them. They are such a treat to receive. I like your idea.. that is very thoughtful and a great gift to receive. I enjoy things like that.

Hmm I think not yet but I want to though I'd be really conscious of what they will think about what I made. I admire your creativity and thoughtfulness. The mason jar idea's great :)

It is easy and takes less time than you would think. The hard part is deciding what recipe to put in the jar.

I try to make handmade gifts but I'm not horribly artsy craftsy. I usually make gifts of homemade cookies. It always seems to be a big hit.

That is a very good idea. I never thought of putting special things in jars like that. I will copy you (not this year though, too late to begin to collect jars).

You can buy the mason jars in the grocery store. They sell them by the dozen here.
