Hopefully I Won't Come Home to Water all Over the Kitchen!

My kitchen sink has been clogged for about 4 days now. I hadn't been able to get to the store to buy drain cleaner, hence the reason for it not getting cleared before now. Although it was clogged, the water still went down, albeit slowly. I bought a kitchen snake and a bottle of drain cleaner yesterday. Hubby used the snake and broke it. Yay. He then poured the drain cleaner down the drain. It did clear up, but when I tested it by turning on the faucet, it backed up again. I thought it would clear up during the night, but woke to find that there was water in the sink. This is from the faucet dripping. I bailed the water into a pan and emptied it into the toilet. Then returned to the sink with the pan and put it under the faucet. Yes, I did try to shut off the water, but the knobs are stuck and I haven't the strength to turn them. So I am now worried that the pan will overflow and I'll have a mess to deal with when I get home. Does this crap ever end? I know there are worse things that can happen, but geez Louise, these little hiccups are causing my head to spin. So, I will have to head back to the store today to pick up another bottle of drain cleaner. This one will be a bit more caustic and hopefully do the trick. Hope your day is hiccup free. Wish mine were.

That's a bad feeling. I had that happen with my bathroom sink, but it was plugged up because of the apartment below me. I hate that sink!

Did you tried asking for a repairman for that sink? I hope you get your sink fixed soon before you get yourself so tired of draining it

WD40 on the stuck shutoff tap. Is there no escape plug thingie on the trap to clear out what might be there?

The plumbing was done by my mother-in-law's exidiot. He cobbed up the plumbing. We will have to completely redo the pipes if we need to manually remove the clog,

@BarBaraPrz I made a typo, fixed it. It should have read mother-in-law. My mom did collect idiots in her day as well though. LOL.

If the faucet dripping fills the sink that fast it must be a pretty bad leak. I hope its the cold water and you have a well or it is costing you money.

The water comes from an artesian well that the park owner supplies. He did shut off the water so it wouldn't continue to drip. The clog is still there and it looks like he will have to crawl under the trailer to fix it.

Have you tried to pour a cup of baking soda in the sink followed by hot vinegar? Sometimes it works a lot better than drain cleaners.

I have tried it before with little success.

@ElusiveButterfly I have never been successful using a "snake", but I have a sink declogger that works very well. I have found a picture of one that is almost identical to mine. When nothing works this works.

My hubby worked the problem after dinner last night. He was still at it when I went to bed. Not done yet though. He will probably need to purchase more pipe and crawl under the trailer tonight to fix the problem.

That sounds like quite the plug in your drain. I hope that you don't arrive home to find water everywhere, fingers crossed for ya.

The pan I placed under the dripping faucet was nearly full when I got home. I emptied it and it started to fill again.

Things like this can get to a person. With enough to deal with each day, a person feels like it is not too much to ask that a drain does not clog up! I hope all stays dry and the new drain cleaner works.

The clog is further down the pipe and my husband will have to crawl under the trailer to get to it. He is not happy about having to do this. Can't say as I blame him either. It is cold and dank under the trailer.

A home remedy is to put carb soda down the drain pipe then pour vinegar down it. You need to put the plug in quickly and hold it down really hard or the stuff will all fizz out the top but it is a method that often works. I'm sure drain cleaner is just as good.

I'll have to try that. I'll of course use my gloves to protect my hands.
