My next song with the word 'kangaroo' in the title or lyrics is a song called Skew it on the Bar-B by a group called OutKast, an American hip hop duo originally from Atlanta, Georgia. Wikipedia says they achieved ‘achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success in the 1990s and early 2000s’. Perhaps some of you have heard of them. 'Kangaroo' is a term encompassing a number of species. The smallest are often known as wallabies; the intermediate group as wallaroos and the largest as kangaroos. There is also a few species of tree-kangaroo. Perth Zoo in Western Australia has a Goodfellow’s tree-kangaroo. Tree-kangaroos are considered endangered because of habitat loss and being hunted for meat. Their natural habitat is the tropical rainforest of New Guinea, far north-eastern Queensland and some islands in that region. They are well adapted for an arboreal life with long, broad hind feet equipped with long, curved nails. The paws and soles of the feet are adapted for gripping having a sponge-like covering. The large, pendulous tail gives them better balance. And don’t they have a beautiful pelt? The one in the photo is in the Perth Zoo in our state of Western Australia.

I don't know the group at all. I know more about tree kangaroos than about OutKast.

I'll probably manage without coming across OutKast again but I hope I see another tree-kangaroo or two before I die.

Apart from hopping if they're on the ground, they don't seem to have much in common with other kangaroos. Even the head is quite different.

@JudyEv They are. There is a nice zoo not far from me in Melbourne, Florida and when my daughter was here with my grandson, we all went there for the day. It was so great and so many of the animals were available to have people pet them. I remember going into the area where the kangaroos were. One young one was laying right out on the walk way. I was surprised, I actually thought something was wrong with him. The caretakers were with him whenever anyone went near him.

@ramapo17 Some get very quiet when they're in parks and zoos.

I like to know the whys and wherefores of different creatures. Most are really unique in their own special ways.

We have some that aren't seen elsewhere. South America is a bit similar in that respect.
