Tip on keeping a wash machine clean

Years ago I didn’t know that a washing machine needs cleaning from the inside. I thought that because of cleaning products circulating through, the washing machine should always be clean. But a technician who helped me install few things at home, assured me that washing machine that is not regularly cleaned could be moldy inside. And because of hard water, calcium might build up and damage the machine in the long run. So he showed me a simple way to clean it by pouring vinegar in the bleach dispenser and let the washing machine work on hot water program. Repeat that every 3 months (depending on how often you use your washing machine). Do you clean your washing machine?

This is a very good idea. I always leave the door open so the machine can air but running vinegar through it sounds very sensible.

And you would see the difference if you look inside. It would be as new.

How is it being done? Pour how much vinegar over how much water into the washing machine and let it run like washing clothes?

@Madshadi Thank you so much. I will tell the laundry woman to do this after she is done washing the clothes in the washing machine.

He said about fourth of the vinegar bottle but I pour all of it. It can't do any harm. Don't mix it with water. And yes then just let it run like it does when washing clothes. But on maximum temperature.

That makes sense, I'll start doing that this week.
