It depends I think. My oldest daughter has a phone, she uses it to look things up for her school work, she plays games on it and I text her when I need her if she's outside playing with friends.

I think children do not need one. They are constantly on it and do not pay attention to where they are going and mommy and daddy pay for it.

I think kids below 12-13 years should not be given mobiles, and even older students in schools need to have it for communication or for safety purpose. Else, students will develop the habit of unnecessarily using mobile phones at all times.

I vote for a NO. Kids should not be given smartphones. They should be playing and geyting involve in other activities. Giving them smartphone is not a wise decision.
I know a few of kids who are about 10 to 11 and use smartphone to watch adult site.
The other reason is they will get addicted to it and end up wasting all there time being on smartphone playing games or whatsoever. I think they shpuld not be given smartphone not until they reach 15.
