I Love Abe Books

I used to read a book a day. I did this for most of my life. Then along came the home computer and I started travel writing and genealogy and the next thing you know, I wasn't reading anymore. Lately, I have been making time for reading. I read before I go to bed and when I wake up. I go up to bed in the afternoon for a nap and I read again. I have a stack of books to read but I love history and I want some history books to read. Abe Books sells used books at great prices from a variety of vendors and it is an easy way to find all the books from an author that you love. For me, that is Alison Plowden, Alison Weir and Philippa Gregory. While I was Mylotting an ad came up for Abe and so I clicked through and bought myself some new ( to me) books. I helped myself and Mylot at the same time. Have you ever used Abe Books? If not, I suggest giving them a look, it is well worth your while.

Phillipa Gregory is so good. The book about the gardener, John Tradescant. Fine book. There was a book that went with it but the first one, for me, anyway, was the best ever.

I have read a few of hers, mostly about the War of the Roses.

I have some of her books here but haven't read them yet. That one sounds interesting though as I am a keen gardener and plant-lover - I have several Tradescantias!

I have checked Abe Books, they are only in the United States, the shipping fees to Europe are a lot more than the cost of the books.

I just ordered a book from London so I think they have added dealers in Europe which would make the shipping cheaper and it looked like they have something in Dusseldorf.

@BelleStarr London shipping fees are expensive and we also have the Custom, because Switzerland is not part of the EU, London no more anyway.

I have not used them before, but I think this is only for those in the US and might be too expensive for me here in South Africa. But I am happy you found some gems, Iz.

I am always on the lookout for second-hand books that I might like. Books in Australia used to be cheap but then they put some sort of tax on them and prices sky-rocketed.

@BelleStarr We used to have the most marvellous sales of library books that were considered 'surplus to requirements'. We picked up some beauties in that way. Unfortunately they are a thing of the past now.

I like to own my books and most of the ones I buy cost me $3.62 with no shipping. And in reality, many of the books I want to read would not be at my local library.

That is a real shame, I love the feel of a book in my hand, I have never gotten used to reading with a kindle.

It is from 2015 so not the newest, I think though she is done with the Tudors and with the War of the Roses so I am not sure where she is going next, maybe the Stuarts.
