A certain Egyptian celebrity mocked how Filipino speaker talks. Of course not all of us is a native speaker. We have our first language and English is our secondary language. I must admit that not all of us does not have that perfect English twang or the English accent. I work for an international company and support multiple regions. I talk to Chinese, Taiwanese, Indians, Irish, English, Americans even Vietnamese and Filipinos. I hear how they enunciate words in their regional accent. I talk to them professionally. I remember my previous post on other site entitled We Hate Criticisms but We Criticize. When Filipino sees an Indian with a turban, riding a motorcycle, you will see or hear people shouting Bombay, Bombay! Stop mocking and appreciate the language!
Panoorin kung paano pagtawanan at punahin ng EGYPTIAN CELEBRITY na eto na si Mais Hamdan ang ACCENT ng mga FILIPINO sa pagsasalita ng english sa national TV....

Of course its not good at all. But maybe this is also the right time for us to stop doing this, there are many Filipino, even some in TV shows mocking on language of other countries. Now we understand this is not funny at all.

@ilocosboy I edited the last part. I remember my post entitled We Hate to Criticism but We Criticize. I can't remember exactly why I wrote that in the first place. I think it was about Claire Danes criticizing how dirty Philippines is.

It's never nice to mocks people if they do not have a perfect pronunciation, but I know that this is very common. We Italians mocks even other Italians coming from different regions.

I appreciate most languages in fact all. My dialect is very strong too and it does get mocked quite an awful lot. That I can tell you. I don´t care what people think of my dialect its where I was born and where I have come from

@jobelbojel Living over here and if I come across someone from Great Britain they identify where I am from right away. The accent is more Welsh than English mixed and we live near very near to the bordeer of Cymru which is North Wales.

Very well said. As long as we don't hurt other people when we speak we are good.

I don't imagine an average Egyptian has a perfect English accent either. Not sure why she needs to mock others for it. And there is nothing wrong with speaking English with a foreign accent.

Absolutely, there is no way a foreigner from a non-speaking country can perfect the proper pronunciation.

I don't speak their languages. I am just so lucky that we speak the universal language over the phone. There are communication barriers at times, but I respect how they speak.

That is something that is done all over the world - mocking different accents - but I think it is mostly done in fun - no hard feelings.

@Kandae11 @jobelbojel Kandae, you're certainly right. Germans are constantly made fun of when they speak English. Especially the Brits can laugh their heads off when they hear a German accent. What I don't like about this is that native speakers of English hardly know foreign languages due to the fact that they're born with world language No 1. They have no reason to laugh about people speaking understandable English with an accent.

@MALUSE I agree. Those persons whose native language is not English do well to be able to speak it well - forget the accent.

That is rotten for her to do that. I can only speak English so I am always amazed at people who can speak more then one language fluently. I am kind about it if I talk to someone who I don’t understand well usually it’s just their accents are strong and I have bad hearing.

I say we really can't keep giving these people and their comments any oxygen at all. Because they will always find it difficult to accept something that is different, no matter what we do. It's like me, I have to admit, I break into giggles inside when I hear other people's accents but I don't go on live TV broadcasting my hatred towards other people's differences. I say, let's embrace our accent. Because the several cultures that have shaped this go far into history and there is nothing we can do about that. The more we try to sound like other accents, the more ridiculous it sounds. It's normal to maybe try and pronounce things the way the locals would for the intention of being understood. Here in Australia, I hear several Filipinos trying so pathetically hard to sound like the Aussies and ending up sounding like they have a whole new language altogether. And it's awkward. But, at times, I find I had to say "monitah" instead of "monitor" because I'd only keep repeating myself if I didn't.

Embracing what we have in the first place would be a nice sign that we love where we came from. And that we are proud of our rich language.

Here even people from different states mock each other's local accent. But I do agree that some people either pretend not to realize or are too ignorant to realize that it could be seen as insulting.

i disliked that post on FB. how dare that non-English speaker to mock our kababayan. even though she studied in the US or UK, that does not give her the privilege to look down on us. a British defended the Filipina by bashing that actress. i also read the latest post that the Egyptian actress apologized to the Filipina. i think even the audience should also

I have read about this news. Now we Filipinos are mocked but I mostly heard Filipinos in the Philippines showbiz mocking other foreign people's languages. Now it is the time for us Filipinos to know how hurtful that is. Mocking other persons uniqueness is bad at all.

As if her first language is English. I heard about it on Facebook and I don't bother. She doesn't have the right to mock us because she is not also a Native English Speaker.
