I am Going to Cheat....EDITED VERSION

United States
November 17, 2017 10:20pm CST
With my sink still not in working order, and my kitchen ashambles, I decided to buy a sheet cake from one of the bakeries for my the baby shower I am hosting. Normally I would make a cake from scratch and decorate it for the occasion. Time, and the fact that I just don't have the space to work in has made me decide to buy a cake. Now to think of a dish I can bring to share. I do have some shrimp in the freezer and may make a scampi or just keep it simple and use it as an appetizer. Still haven't sewn a zipper in the sweater I made. Also have to wrap the gifts and get the party favors done. So, yes, I am a cheater. I am willing to cheat. I will cheat. Are you a cheater too? EDITED AT 2:43 P.M.: After a long morning of shopping, I decided to purchase 2 cake mixes to make the cake for the shower. I guess it is still cheating in a way. The cake will be baked tonight before I go to bed. The frosting will be made in the morning. The cost of a sheet cake is about $15! Who has that kind of money for cake? The box mixes were $1 each. I have butter, vanilla, and confectioners sugar to make the frosting. Now to find the ambition!! Wish me luck!

I don't call that cheating, I call that participation points. Because even though you didn't do what you thought you could do because of specific reasons, you are still trying! That is what counts!

I do not consider this cheating, unless you say that you made the cake.

I may just suck it up and drag out the mixer and whip up the cake and frosting for it.

My son is always accepting of anything that I do. He won't mind. I am going to make the cake at home though. However, I did buy 2 box mixes.

@Courtlynn I was going to buy a cake, but decided that it was too much money for one. The frugal side of me kicked in and I bought cake mixes. Sorry for the confusion!!

My grandmother used to always make each of us a birthday cake. All done by hand. No one makes as good a cake.

Good luck to you. Sheet cake is more expensive here. They start in the $20's and go upward.

There are a lot of times that the only thing that I can do is to cheat in the interest of time. You have so many things that you need to get done so I really think that it is fine.

The stores were so busy today that I forgot to look at the cakes. Hopefully there will be some to choose from tomorrow.

I use boxes cakes for occasions. They turn out delicious and they are not as costly as buying a cake from the bakery.

I am going to make a batch of chocolate and a batch of yellow cupcakes this morning. They cool fast and can be decorated in a flash! Total cost for all will be $4, which is a far cry from what I would pay for them in a store.

I feel no guilt about bringing store-bought desserts to a party. Sometimes you just don't have the time, or room, or energy, to make something homemade. It will still be delicious, I'm sure.

I bought 2 cake mixes when at the store. Forgot to price sheet cakes. The cost would have pushed my ambition button and hence why I bought the mixes. Ugh. I'll make the cake before I go to bed and let it cool overnight. The frosting will be made and added in the morning.

@Srbageldog I didn't make the cake last night. LOL. Fell asleep. So, cupcakes are on the agenda for this morning. The shower isn't until 4 so I have plenty of time.

I realize that it takes time to decorate a cake. However, I am not looking for something to feed royalty. LOL. A simple cake with simple decorations would have done the trick. I am making cupcakes today. Have to run to get a turkey this morning and will have to bake when I get back.

When circumstance dictate I can't do something the way I normally do, then I will find a work around. I'm sorry your kitchen is in a shambles. I hope it gets taken care of soon.
