First Day Of Hunting Season

Today is the first day of deer hunting season with a gun, This is also the first day of hunting season that I have not been awaken to people shooting close to my house. I had wondered why? But I have been calling the police and game warden because of them hunting so close to my home (its a felony). But I did notice something else, the land owner of the pastures around me is at his place and has been for a few weeks doing the hay once more so maybe they do not have permission to hunt that land after all. Tony and most all of his siblings are hunters. They buy nothing fancy to go hunting because its not needed just bullets and a shotgun, most of them have passed away now and Tony is going alone more these days. When he brings home a deer he cleans it and puts it in the deep freezer. Since I have been around this lifestyle all my life I help with the cleaning of the deer, this is part of life. I know most people here wont go hunting or even grow their own food, the thought of killing to eat is something they push aside and have others do for them, even plants are alive. Do you ever think about where your steak was born? Or who killed your salad greens? This early morning ramblings was inspired by @FayeHazel One cup of coffee down and more to come. Have a wonderful day!

Hunting for food is ok, but I have a problem with trophy hunters.

Me too! I feel like this, don`t kill it unless you will eat it, animal or plant.

I saw a deer on the side of the road yesterday that had been hit and it made me so sad. I can't imagine killing one on purpose.

I have a Facebook friend who has already killed a deer, and that is his only 1 I think he gets all yr. Nothing wrong with killing your own meat like this. Just as long as you are going to eat it.

I'd grow my own food and hunt if I'm properly trained and equipped. After all, humans started as hunters.

All I know is that the steak I eat was a product from the slaughter house down to the processing plant.

I try not to think about it or I would never eat any meat. My grandsons like to hunt but they use a bow.

Well, Tony only takes one for himself and if the elders need meat he will take one for them.

I'm not against killing things for food, but I am against killing for sport.

I have read that hunting as a sport or to feed yourself is way down compared to what it used to be. I have never been a hunter and, yes, I do let others butcher what I eat.

If there was no money or grocery store and you wanted meat you would hunt.

Oh very true - one must be safe when out hunting - cannot shoot across roads or in the directions of houses. You're right - if you eat meat - it is the same idea weather you buy it at grocery store or eat hunted meat. In fact, as much as I hate dwelling on this - it may be more humane to eat the hunted meat, where the animal has lived it's life in the wild, not in a feedlot. (and now I would like to stop thinking about where my food comes from, ha ha!) Thanks for the shout out

I have no problems with killing animals for food. I can't stand those that kill big game with rifles that so high-powered they'd take out anything. I don't consider that sport - more like cowardice.
