My Hair Turned Out a Little Auburn

Today, I purchased some hair-coloring from our local WalMart Store. There is such a wide selection to choose from, which made it pretty hard for me to decide. I already know from a bad experience, buying dark brown isn't a good idea. Revlon makes the cheaper hair-dye, but I really prefer Nutrisse because it makes my hair color look more natural. I chose an ash/medium brown, which turned my hair a shade of auburn, which I'm not very happy about. Auburn hair is beautiful, but it's not a favorite shade, for me. Oh well, at least it's all one color and it's still fairly soft. My husband hasn't said a word, which means that he does approve. If Jay didn't like it, he would definitely let me know! So now this human guinea-pig, is a ravishing red head:)

@Courtlynn That's smart, because the salon girls know exactly what shade you'll end up with. When I use a dye from the store, it's never twice the same color.

@Courtlynn I've tried different kinds, Revlon, Loreal, Nutrisse, and other brands, too. They all turn out a different shade, than what's shown on the box.

@ridingbet Thank you:) As a young girl, I always wanted my hair to be a lot darker. It looked silly on me!

@kobesbuddy which one? the darker one? for me, i prefer the black. if i see my hair getting brown look when under the sun, i wopuld go to the saloon to have it colored black. i don't know, but i prefer black over dark brown.

@ridingbet I don't look good with black hair, it doesn't look natural. My skin is very light.

Too bad you didn't show us a picture. My hair is auburn. I used to think it was dark brown, but it does and always has had red in it. So when I get it colored at the salon, I go back to my natural color, the one I was born with. Otherwise my natural color at the moment would be silver. I'm too young for silver, so I'm a beautiful auburn.

@just4him Yes, my hair has always had red highlights, even as a youngster. It was always dark brown, but in the sun, it looked like a shade of auburn. My natural color now is four different colors, black, brown, gray and white. Jay never complains about it, but I sure do!

@kobesbuddy It's tough getting old and seeing all that mixture of natural color. That's why I cover it. It makes me look older than I am, or want to be. I want to look young for as long as possible.

@just4him Absolutely! At 66 years old, I'd like to have one color of hair, so I don't look a lot older

I used to always dye my hair red. People always thought I was a natural redhead because my skin is so pale (three of my siblings are redheads.) My hair is naturally dark brown, and when I was little it was blonde. I've had my hair dyed just about every color under the rainbow, except I don't recall ever dying my hair gray or green. My favorite was when I had it dyed purple. It's been a few years since I last dyed my hair -- I keep debating whether I want to dye it again or not. I'm sure your hair looks lovely.

@Srbageldog As a teenager, I dyed my hair a couple times, to get a darker shade of brown. My skin is pale also, so it didn't look very natural, real dark. As a grown up, I've never dyed my hair, until the last five years. I never do it consistently, probably a couple times a year.

@kobesbuddy I always wanted to dye my hair fun colors as an adolescent, but my parents said no, I had to wait until I was 18 and then I could do whatever I wanted with my hair. (I did have my cousin dye my hair purple when I was 14, though, without my parents' permission...you couldn't really tell what color it was until I was standing in the sunlight, so it took my parents a while to notice. Otherwise it just looked dark.) Well, what they didn't tell me was once I was an adult, I couldn't just dye my hair however I wanted because most employers don't allow it!

@Srbageldog Yes, employers are very choosy, about hair-color! Also, some places refuse to hire someone, who has tattoos!

I bet you look great with auburn hair. I usually end up with a shade that is unusual when I try something a little lighter or a little darker.

@Corbin5 The side of the box shows a certain color to expect. When I'm all finished, my hair color is nowhere near that tone!

Naturally, my hair was very dark brown. With graying everywhere, it's more becoming to try for one solid shade.

I am not using any color for my hair nowadays. My favorite was not there in the stores readily. Anyhow, it will be there on Wednesday. But, I will be on tour on that day. So decided to have my hair colored in another state viz., Banaras. Hope everything goes well.

I have to say I got more attention that ever when I was a red head. Of course I hated it because all my siblings are red heads, I was the odd one with light brown hair that turned white.

@andriaperry I try to get a rich, dark brown, but have never been able to. My sister does her hair red, which I really don't like, on her. Natural red hair is pretty, on someone else!
