Okay, now that the bubblegum song is up, it's time for JJ to turn the hearing aid back on for the classic rock selection. These are selections that are either overplayed to death on "classic rock" radio or bands that I don't care for, so it may surprise some to learn that I like these songs. Here's today's rock shocker. #4: Dream On - Aerosmith Not growing up with "hard rock," you can pretty much draw the line (ha, see that Aerosmith reference I sneaked in here? ) between my tastes in 70s rock. The hard rock wasn't up my alley. I think the hardest rock song I liked the year I started listening to rock and roll was "Hey You" by BTO. And, in the grand scheme of things, this is one of the "softest" Aerosmith songs in existence. One of the "power ballads before there were power ballads" (or maybe a "quality" power ballad), "Dream On" was from Aerosmith's first album....and it bombed. They reissued it after "Sweet Emotion" cracked the top 40...and this time the song went to the top ten. When you hear the DJ say, "Coming up, we've got Aerosmith," you're pretty certain this is the song you're going to hear. Thankfully, I haven't burned out on this iconic song yet. I do kinda like the Toys in the Attic album...you can thank REM's cover of the title song for that.
