My husband' mother had a stroke this week. She is fighting for her life now, but we know that if she survive, she won't talk and walk anymore. It has been quite difficult as my husband is her only son, he is suffering with this situation and we don't know How to tell our kids that their grandmother is so sick. I feel lost because I don't know how to comfort my husband, Right now I just stay near him all the time but I feel him quite lonely.
I pray to God to help us facing this situation.

How old is she ? I got a stroke last March, and I had the two legs paralyzed during 2 months. With some physical therapy I started to walk again, and after less than 4 months after the stroke I was walking like before. The physiotherapist and the nurses had told me that I would need at least 6 months, it took less than that... There is no secret : at the beginning each footstep costs a lot of will and hurts, but it brings closer of a complete recovery. Many old people are tempted to not do the effort needed to recover their legs. My case was lighter than the one of your husband's mother (I had only the legs paralyzed), but you should wait a few weeks before telling that she will never walk and talk again. There is always some hope, my stroke is definitely a bad memory today, I wish her the same.

That is very tough, for her and for you and your husband. I hope the outcome will not be as bad as you fear. All you can really do is support your husband, give him a hug and let him talk if he needs to, and reassure him you will be there to help in the future whatever happens.

It will be hard to explain the kids the situation. Just like you my wife stood by me, you hold on to him rest its Gods will and strength that will help you guys.

I am sorry to hear that. Was it very serious? I am not familiar with this, but my aunt and uncle just had a stroke last year. They slowly recovered and now they were able to work and take care of themselves again. I also have a homeschooling mentor who just got a stroke a few years ago, and she recovered too. She also shared that knitting helped her to progress really fast, even the doctor was surprised with this as her condition was really bad. She is now walking well and also recording many webinars, and she seems to talk very well too.
Perhaps you can consult the doctor or find out more positive cases for stroke, this might help lifting you and your husband.
Sending you hugs and prayers.
