We are not having Thanksgiving here at the house and we received a free turkey from the grocery store. I didn't have room in the freezers for it, so it has been defrosting in the basement refrigerator. Today is the day to cook it.
I was planning to smoke it so I put a barbecue-based rub on it (garlic powder, onion powder, ground sage, paprika, chili powder, cayenne, sugar, kosher salt) yesterday and let it air dry in the fridge overnight. Unfortunately it was raining this morning so we didn't set up the smoker. I am just roasting it like a traditional turkey. It will still have great flavor, it just won't be like a traditional Thanksgiving turkey with rosemary, sage, onion, and lemon.
Now I need to see what else I have on hand to make for sides. I didn't go to the grocery store this weekend so I'm going to just scrounge up whatever I already have in the cabinets and in the fridge. Stay tuned!

It sounds very good. I was just listening to the tv show "The Chew", and they had a bourbon glaze sauce on it. It sounded great.
