If it sounds too good to be true...it probably is

Sometime ago, while looking for an audition monologue, I ran across a website called Actorama. It seems to be a sort of clearing house for casting actors and voice over people from around the US. I think that the site itself is legitimate after some online checking. At any rate, I registered on the site, but never heard anything until today. I received an email requesting a resume, voice demo and wanting to know if I was interested in doing some voice over work. Of course I am! So, I responded with the requested info. This afternoon, I got an email saying that I have "wonderful works" and the word "let" misspelled in the first line. It did not mention my name and was generic enough to have been sent to a hundred people who might have responded to the original email. The "job" would pay $850 for perhaps 45 minutes worth of work at a "rented studio near me." Well, the money is good and not our of line really for that kind of work. There is more than one very good studio here in town. The language is a bit stilted though and the word "artist" was spelled "artiste" in the original message. I asked Anne to read this offer and she agrees that it smacks of a scam of some kind. The next email might ask me to advance funds to the studio for rental or something. Needless to say, I won't be responding to this guy again. I am sorry that he has my contact information. They came close to getting me to bite, but were too sloppy.

I sometimes think these guys must wonder how they get so close to conning someone then suddenly the victim backs off.

They think they are smarter than the mark. I did not just fall off the turnip truck though.

@JamesHxstatic That's a new phrase for me. We might say 'I didn't come down in the last shower'.

Oh well, I am glad that I got suspicious about it.

Red flag, definitely. I got a similar email for an offer a couple of months ago. I didn't reply just because the language was too sloppy for a "professional company".

That is a good clue I think.

If the text was written in a sloppy way, it probably came from abroad.

I would be leery too. Doesn't sound legit.
