It's not the job we have that bothers us, it's the daily commute!

To be quite up front about this, I live in a big city and the traffic is horrendous. The daily grid lock makes me so nervous that I get headaches, indigestion and don't have a way to avoid it. So for most people, it's not the job that bothers us, but rather, it is the daily commuting to and from our jobs. The city was never designed for over a 2.5 million population and the roads and inter city freeways are so congested that they are suffering from regular instances of accidents, slow moving RUSH HOUR turtle speed traffic and it is only getting worse. The way I see it, the only solution is to create more places to ride a bike, walk, ride a segway or take public transit. There has to be a way to make things better to take away the overcrowding of the cities transportation infrastructure, but how? here is a link below that suggests ways to make it better for people who have to get to work via the big city streets. I want to also cover the other issues of modern transportation such as the creation of pedestrian walk paths and other ways to make navigation through a big city work better by putting up area maps at all bus stops and light rail or subway locations and providing pedestrian maps and apps for mobile users to help you get around without getting lost and so forth. You might want to share some of your own ideas. I welcome it.
Connected and autonomous vehicle technology will help optimize roadway utilization, potentially saving billions in future infrastructure expansion.

@lookatdesktop Between 7.30am-830am, the traffic on the road is horrible and going home peak hours at 4.30-6pm you really need to pee by the roadside!

I feel your pain about rush hour being very stressful for all of us getting from home to work and vice versa.

There are growing number coming right out of Houston and Port Arthur from the last few hits by flooding caused by Hurricanes of the past and more recently, Hurricane Harvey. God bless those people for surviving that terrible event.

@lookatdesktop recommends this article to look at.
If the goal is that all development should never increase road congestion, car-centric, sprawled-out cities will never be able to change.

I agree, well on my husband behalf. He isn't in love with his job however he really hates the commute. I hate it too as I worry everyday, more in the winter. Were we live there is no choice but to drive, no other way to get to work.

In that case, seeing how the winter is coming and temperatures going way down, carrying extra water, and a blanket or two is a good thing in case of a pile up or a road block when you just can't go anywhere until they clear the road. But moreover, it is best to always drive slow and with confidence, so I always plan my commute an hour early.

@lookatdesktop We have all that plus, snacks in the vehicle, if need be he could make a fire. LOL! He carries a little of everything. He does leave really early too, His commute is about an 1 1/2 hours he has to be at work at 2:00, so he leaves here about 11:30.

@Ithink , We have to make due when possible, just to survive so snacks and water are always a plus.

I have to agree with you. I am here in NYC and believe me it is no picnic. There seems to be more cars than people now. We need the technologies that the military industrial complex has been hiding from us for about 70 years. But they are too greedy to share. In the meantime, we have to suffer with all this old fashioned technology. And for now, yes, we do need better ideas to make commuting a lot easier.

See what I mean? It's the stress of the commute that degrades every day life and we are burdened by the extra stress and wasted time spent on the streets, so there need to be new ways to make it better for people to get from place to place without all the headaches.

My sister worked in downtown Chicago. She took the L-train to and from work, every single day.

Did that work well enough for her? Was it the better way to get to and from her work?

@lookatdesktop My sister was relieved, because of the fact she didn't have to fight the city traffic!
