Ten Bubblegum Songs: Dizzy (#2)

It's almost time to chew up this series of ten bubblegum songs that I can tolerate. For the final two, I'll gladly admit that I love these songs. I will also admit that there may be some controversy as to whether or not they belong on a list of "bubblegum pop" songs. Here's one of two really good songs on the list. #2: Dizzy - Tommy Roe I have to tell you something: Tommy Roe almost made bubblegum respectable. He gave us some great songs: "Hooray for Hazel," "Sheila" (his Buddy Holly impersonation), "Sweet Pea," and "Jam Up Jelly Tight." "Dizzy," co-written by Freddy Weller (who went on to have a moderately successful career as a country singer in the early 1970s), was Roe's biggest single. It was #1 for a month. That's easy to understand, because it's a fun song. If this is too "bubblegum" for your taste, listen to the version by the Wonder Stuff with Vic Reeves on lead vocals. That thing rocks.
