The Tree of Doom

It's that time of year again. The restaurant started putting up Christmas decorations. Trying to make the place look festive. This was great fun last year because no one could remember where the decorations were stored. Who would have expected to look in the space above the false ceiling? This year someone found a small artificial Christmas tree in the storage room. I don't remember that thing. It's black and has a dark brooding presence. It must've been on clearance. I called it the tree of doom when I saw it and the name has stuck. The restaurant manager didn't think we should put it up and scare customers away. As soon as she left for the day one of the lower level supervisors with a couple of employees assembled it and put it up in the crew room. I think the entertainment value will keep it out of the dumpster until the new year. After yesterday's smelly disaster with the grease trap, it was nice to have a laugh on the job.

Somebody else at work thought it would have been better for Halloween. A couple of people put a lot of work into decorating it after I went home and it doesn't look that bad now.

Just so long as they don't start playing Christmas carols that early.

I'd rather see the amusing side of some of these things.

I know some people who would be very happy with a black Christmas tree.I am not sure it would make me jolly. Still, with some lights... You have to make the best of what you've got, so deck the halls!

With the right decorations, it would probably look just fine. Everyone's reactions to it though were fun to watch.

It's always amazing how some tinsel and ribbon can brighten the most dreary tree and hide its flaws.
