Another Frozen Pie Please!

I've decided to not go the way of making desserts from scratch this year. Got out of work yesterday and had to go to the grocery store for a few more items. I stood in front of the frozen pie section for about 5 minutes and looked at the offerings. After reading the label on a Mrs. Smith's berry pie, I decided to purchase it. Now I already had the ingredients for a homemade pumpkin pie in my cart, but looked at the pre-made frozen crusts and contemplated buying one. I talked myself out of it. When I got home, I preheated the oven and made myself a cup of coffee. After I put the pie in the oven I sat on the sofa with coffee in hand, took a few sips and fell asleep. So much for doing a little housework as I had planned on doing. I woke and finished my now cold coffee. I could smell the aroma of the berry pie coming from the kitchen and hoped that I hadn't slept through the timer. Just then, the timer went off and I headed to the kitchen to remove the pie from the oven. So easy and simple to open a box, toss a pie in the oven to bake. I decided that I will go to the store to pick up a pumpkin pie tonight. I am sure my family won't crucify me for cheating. If the ingredients are the same as homemade and I bake it at home, it is still good enough to serve. I hope that you don't beat yourself up for not making homemade desserts. Why not give yourself a break and go the easy route?

That is a great way to do things. You already have too many things on your plate.

Some frozen deserts turn out great. I like to make my own pumpkin pie, but I've also bought some delicious ones as well. It all boils down to the time we can afford. Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow.

I have some boxed quick breads..I have done the frozen pies many times. I am going to make the breads healthier though by adding some fresh ingredients.

I have added bananas, diced apples, or other fresh fruit to a box of quick bread when making it for a client. They always ask how I managed to get it to taste so good.

@snowy22315 I often buy green bananas, but when they are lime green I pass on them.

My husband bought of one those frozen apple pies once to cook and eat for my moms birthday. I have never bought a frozen one buy it would be a lot easier. Aldis and walmart have premade pumpkin pies for $3 or less and since my pumpkin pies never cook right in my oven I buy those for my kids.

So well said and of course as you said, " the ingredients are the same as homemade". When I check the labels there are so many with difficult names that I would never put in my homemade pies.

@ElusiveButterfly There are ingredients I do not want, nothing hydrogenated for me. A friends who worked for those who check the food scams, explained me how "hydrogenated oils" (or butter and margarine) are made, it's not the only thing I avoid.

I think you are very wise. What is the point of a holiday if you are so stressed and tired that you can't enjoy it?

I went the way of frozen pies this year also. Apple pie and pumpkin pie, they seem to be favorites. I also am bringing a fruit tray, yes, I am getting it from Publix already put together. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

There is nothing wrong with using frozen pies. I take them to family gatherings. Once in a while when I have the time I will make one but that is a rarity.

That is exactly what I'm doing too. Although my boyfriend's family gets weird if they find out the pie is not homemade. Well, this time they won't know the difference. I'll bake it beforehand, wrap it in foil and it is homemade for all they know.
