Have you had kinkajou stew?

While researching the lyrics of the song, My Boomerang Won’t Come Back, I came across the phrase ‘kinkajou stew’. I had an idea a kinkajou was an animal so I Googled it and sure enough, it is a small mammal which is found in southern parts of Mexico and in Central and South America. It is found in varied habitats from tropical rainforests to mountain and dry forests. Apparently, in some countries these animals are kept as house pets. Its taxonomical name is ‘Potos flavus’. What is really fascinating about these creatures is that the ankles on the hind legs can rotate to allow the animal to move in any direction in their arboreal habitat. The prehensile tail acts much like a fifth limb and also keeps them warm at night. It is sometimes called a ‘honey bear’ with its large eyes, small ears and short legs. The 5-inch long tongue comes in handy for extracting nectar from flowers. Feeding in this way also assists in the pollination of flowers. They have a double coat consisting of a grey undercoat and golden outer coat. In captivity, they may live up to 25 years. Have you ever heard of a kinkajou? I think I have seen these creatures in the Portland zoo. They are quite strange.

I have heard of kinkajou, but never have seen it myself.Natural enviromental condition and evolution made them what they are like today.

@changjiangzhibin89 These are two very special animals. In particular, there are many who love pandas and anything to do with them.

I have seen it in televisions and books but never knew its name. The elaboration you gave me felt as if watching a animal channel. This is something new to me. Hope there more and more such unknown creatures. May be as this could only survive certain courtiers mainly Mexico and Central South America more people like us is yet to know. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful one.

I'm glad you enjoyed the post. Central and South America have some quite different animals. I researched it once and came across quite a few that I'd never heard of before.

Not come across those before, although like you I suspect I might have heard the name in a song, maybe it's just a nice name people like the sound of! Reminds me of a bush baby or a lemur.

I thought it looked a bit like a bush baby too. South and Central America have some very unusual animals.

Having just looked up 'kinkajou' and 'song' I think you will now have to do a series of posts on music featuring kinkajous!

Haha. I think it might be a very short series as I only came across one song that uses 'kinkajou' in the lyrics.

@JudyEv There seem to be a surprising number of YouTube videos, unless they are all different versions of the same thing.

They're from the same countries. And, according to Wikipedia, they're 'famous for their loud howls, which can travel three miles through dense rainforest.' So is that the part you ascribe to?
