Has anyone ever forgot to take your keys out of the outside door?

One time I forgot to take my keys out of the outside lock of the door and a neighbor of mine saw them and knocked on my door to tell me. Now, I double check that I do not forget them now. What reminded me of that is because I was watching a movie and in the movie someone left their keys in the outside part of the door and a neighbor knocked on the door to tell her. I am so glad my neighbor saw them. I do not want anyone trying to get in our apartment that does not belong here.

@Hannihar I was in panic because I cannot find the keys. Then I went out to look for it and found it inside the keyhole. I feel silly!

Cher, I understand but it happens. We are human beings and we make mistakes.

I certainly understand that one Cher. Did you look for your keys inside and then go to the door or did someone tell you where they were?

I haven't myself, but when I had a paper route I did see keys left in the lock. I rang the door bell and alerted them to the fact.

It's so funny that you wrote about this, because this very same thing happened to me yesterday! I had my hands full of groceries, and so when I opened the door I was about to drop everything so I rushed inside to set the groceries down in the kitchen. I forgot that I left my keys in the door lock! They were in there all afternoon and all night, and I found them there this morning when a delivery guy knocked on my door to tell me he saw my keys handing in the door!
Thankfully, I live in a very safe, gated neighborhood, and also thankfully it was pouring down rain all night!

@Hannihar I would have spent a good deal of time searching all over my house for them, but I would have eventually looked in the door lock to see if they were there. Any time I cannot find my keys, I make sure to check in my truck, and in the front door lock!

I understand Jeff. I try to make sure my keys are inside now and that we are safe inside.

Jeff, I am glad I wrote my post at a good time for you. I am glad you live in a safe place. I am glad my neighbor told me or they would be sitting in there all night. Now, I make sure I check that my keys are inside. I felt very stupid doing it. I am glad the delivery guy told you. Would you have noticed they were not inside if he would not have told you? Would you then be looking all over for them in the morning?

We have done this but being where we are we don't have to keep our door locked when we're home.

I have done that Hanni! Usually when I am bringing in multiple items like groceries from the store. I have even left the keys in the closed door overnight The panic when I could not figure out where my keys were was very stressful. It definitely is not a good feeling when I discovered where they were

DB, I can understand how panicked you must have felt. I didn't even know mine were in the door until a neighbor told me. I felt stupid and now I make sure they are inside now when I come home and do not have to go out again.

@Hannihar Yes, so true. I am usually very careful about those kinds of things always double checking, but I made the mistake of trying to do too many things at one time on that occasion.

My mom would be different, she would remove the pad lock and take it with her instead of putting the pad lock back.

LK, that is different. Did she do that all the time instead of taking just the keys out?

Oh my. Glad that your neighbor saw it there. I accidentally did it once I think, but lucky I realized it quick.

Actually no have never done that. I am always careful not to leave my keys in the garden gate. Once that is locked and my front door locked I feel safe. Glad your neighbor saw the keys.
