It Is A Good Thing Eyelashes Do Grow Back

My sister reminded me the other day of something our grandfather did that made our grandmother very, very angry. When my dad was 4 years of age, my grandfather noticed that his 4-year-old boy had very long eyelashes. Of course, Grandfather thought a little boy with long eyelashes looked far too feminine. Grandfather took a pair of scissors, and he trimmed those eyelashes of my dad's so that Dad looked like he had no eyelashes at all. My grandmother had a fit! Luckily, eyelashes do grow back. Our son inherited those very, very long eyelashes from my dad, and thankfully, my husband never gave them a trim. Photo: Dad is the baby in the middle.

Yes, I love those long eyelashes on guys. Back in the day, those long eyelashes on males might not have been a good thing.

Goodness, that sounds a pretty dangerous thing to do at all. It's a wonder the poor kid didn't get some of the cut off bits in his eyes.

I know!!! It could have ended in disaster. I just wanted to put mascara on our son's eyelashes when he was in middle school, just for a minute or two, to see what very long lashes looked like with mascara added. I told him I would remove it right away, but nope, he would not comply.,

I asked our son if I could just put a little mascara on his just to see what very long eyelashes with mascara looked like. Big fat "No!" prevented that.

No, these days those long eyelashes on males would stay nice and long. I wonder if those long eyelashes back in the day were embarrassing for males who had them?

@valmnz Oh yes, they were. I remember my brother was tossing the baseball back and forth with one of the neighbor girls. My father had a fit and made my brother come inside. Playing with a girl was looked down upon in the 1950s too. Wish my dad had not done that.

Oh gosh, having long eyelashes is a good thing haha but i guess it is hard to tell people that. It protects the eyes and it is normal for men to have longer eyelashes because of the facial hair growth hormone is higher and it affects the eyelashes. I love long eyelashes on a man, it really gives them more character and defines their eyes.

@Corbin5 Yeah, she pulled out chunks of her hair too. For some reason she was Mom & Dad's favorite child to get most of the beatings. I wore eyelashes sometimes as a dancer but they just got to be too much of a pain in the butt. Not to mention, I'd get them too close to my own and when I'd take them off, I'd rip out some of my own.

@nanette64 Poor baby girl to be pulling out her own hair. Yep, I may try those eyelashes again just to see if I still have the skills to adhere them. They really can be a pain, and for you wearing them so often, a real pain!!

One time while in High School, I was cutting my own bangs. Looking up to make sure they were cut evenly, I cut off the tips of my eyelashes! I was so embarrassed, but nobody even noticed it, except for me:)

@Corbin5 Now, I hold the hair straight up, to cut my bangs. It turns out layered, which is better for the shape of my face.

Oh yes, when he was away college, I visited once a month. He would accompany me to the supermarket to pick out groceries. A variety of girls would keep following us to get a look at him. He has always been clueless about his looks, and I had to tell him the young ladies were really making an effort to get up close and personal. Girls have always fawned over him, but he could not have cared less.
