Short Girl Dilemma

I was in need of a new pair of jeans for field work. During the Black Friday sale, I was able to snag a decent pair at a very low price. It was even in my size which is typically hard to find. I usually buy a size 25 and 30 length, if I am lucky I can find a 29. I found a size 25 length 30. But for some insane reason, the hem is still too long for my 5'0" frame. I have to hem the jeans myself. Since I have a complete set of sewing materials and my trusty new-ish singer sewing machine, I figure I will give it a whirl. I have never hemmed denim before, usually just pant suits or trousers. After a few YouTube videos, I was able to hem my jeans without even having to cut or mess with the stitching at the hem. Hems are easy fixes, but as a short girl I have other challenges: shelves, overhead cabinets, even having seats adjusted every time I have to drive just so I could reach the pedals.

That sounds frustrating. I am 510 and have the opposite problem.

I guess it goes both ways for really tall and really short people. Now that I think about it, it is easier to make the pants' hems shorter than to make it longer. That would have required some advanced sewing skills which I sadly do not possess.

I know, right? If I am feeling lazy I just fold the hems and let them drag and get all tattered and frayed. By then I tell myself the hems are too worn for me to even try to properly sew them so I just let them.

but you have some pros too... We are kind of the same height, in my place that is like the average and not to short

while us tall people have to deal with ceilings, shelves with the door open, and folding and bumping our knees in small places. hehe. did you learn to hand-sew and use a sewing machine on your own?

Oh yes, you're right there are also challenges for really tall people. But this diversity is what makes our lives exciting. Yes, I thought myself how to sew and operate a sewing machine. Mostly from watching YouTube videos and googling instructions.

@Raine38 we'd be average in north america, but i guess it also depends on how diverse the state is. a lot of people have been helped by youtube.

@hereandthere Yes, YouTube is amazing if used properly. Anyway, in our department I am the shortest girl. I get teased about it but not in a bad way.

Even I too face these problems. I am also short. Most of the dresses which I buy are lengthy. I have cut short the length of dress which spoils the beauty of the dress. I also wear heels when I wear such dresses.

High heels are also my instant solution whenever I need to make sure that the hem of my outfit is not sweeping the floor.
