I'll get back to my back countdown in a moment. First, I've had this one on my mind for some time, and it seems like the perfect time to bring it out. This time of year is the only time younger people get to hear singers like Bing Crosby. That was "pop" music "back then." It was completely different from what's called "pop music" today. Today's "pop music" basically sounds like Madonna rip-offs. Pop music, back then, was the world of singers. Some of the songs were Tin Pan Alley "moon/June/spoon" songs with not much substance, but oh, those singers. So here's a list of my favorite old pop songs. You'll see the difference almost immediately. If you still have a question about what constituted old "pop," here's Linda Ronstadt to demonstrate. (And enjoy Danny Kortchmar playing Ronstadt's magician former boyfriend in the video. )
What's New is a 1983 jazz album by American singer/songwriter/ producer Linda Ronstadt. It represents the first in a trilogy of 1980s albums Ronstadt recorde...

Yes, and I'm not just talking about my grandfather or a Coke that's lost its fizz.

Always nice to include Linda Ronstadt in any countdown! She can sing any style, make it her own, and Linda's version will hold up against all of the great old "pop" singers of the past
