TWD fans, what tactic would you use?

Update: This discussion contains some spoilers. If you haven't watched the season 8 yet and don't want to know the events stop reading here. So Negan and his men are surrounded by walkers. They can't go anywhere. Their outposts have been destroyed. They lost any means of communication with the outside world. Tactic #1 you leave trapped until they run out of food and turn against each other. Put up snipers around and shoot anyone who tries to leave. Tactic #2 you blow up the gates and let the walkers in to eat every last one of them. I think #1 is safer for Rick's team. Creating a chaos could result in some unnecessary escapes. What do you think?
