Do you carry anything with you for self-defense either on your person or in your car? Have you ever had a scary encounter with a stranger in a parking lot or garage? Or maybe jogging or walking in your neighborhood? Photo- google images/officedepot.com

My sister carries pepper spray, but I am packing, I am licensed.

I don't have anything that would help if I were accosted but I rarely go anywhere where this could happen.

I wear nothing, because if I cross the border all those things are banned in Italy. Yes I have been attacked in the gardens of our hotel in Miami by 2 young males who have stolen my purse.

@dgobucks226 It was my fault, I tried to resist, I grabbed my purse, they made me fall on the ground and I badly hit my head and fainted. I can still feel the "indent" where my head touched the ground.

@LadyDuck It is a normal impulse to resist having something taken from you. It is sad people need to act this way. Glad you were not more seriously injured.

What a terrible experience? Did they harm you when taking your purse?

While I carry it's not what you think. I have to carry a card with me because of knowing martial arts.

@dgobucks226 The problem is DB there are those that like to shoot into a crowd and get any many people as possible.

It seems today it is necessary to be prepared in some way especially if alone. I try to make sure places I go to are frequented by people and public.

@Hannihar You are right there. Events that draw crowds are easy targets for nut cases and terrorists.

Just some slight argument during traffic but nothing really serious. I try to avoid arguments with strangers. I don't carry any weapons with me at all.

@dgobucks226 Right, I've seen the news where people killed each other because of heated arguments in relation to traffic congestion.

You never know if a traffic argument could lead to something more serious. I have heard of many instances of those arguments turning deadly.

I don't carry anything. My purse can be quite heavy and I will use it to hit, repeatedly if need be.

I'd love to have some when I'm on my bike. Spray it at motorists that try to kill me because I'm on a bike.

@dgobucks226 - Of course, it would be contingent upon being able to catch them at a red light!

Sometimes I carry a giant umbrella (to ready for a Mary Poppin act!) .

The umbrella is a very versatile accessory. Not only does it serve as a weapon of self-defense, if things get to scary you can open it up and fly away!

@dgobucks226 True . (Made me think suddenly of some Chinese art in which some women used a handheld fan for decoration & weapon. Fascinating!)

@YrNemo That is a good one, Darcy. I'll never look at a handheld fan the same way again.

No, I should though. When I go out late at night, I take my dog. She can bark quite viciously, hopefully, the bad guys wouldn't know it's all show.

Yes, dogs can be quite effective in discouraging would be attackers. Actually, a very useful weapon, even if she all bark and no bite,
