Favorite "Man" Songs #8 - "This Charming Man"

I'm running out of ideas, man. Ok, not really, I just needed a "man" sentence, to help introduce #8 in my Favorite "Man" Songs series, which involves songs with "man" in the title. It's been awhile since I last used these guys, but the eighth spot belongs to "This Charming Man" by The Smiths. 1983's "This Charming Man" was The Smiths' second ever single, and a non-album single. It did ok, chart-wise, not great, but ok,  reaching #25 in the UK, and #52 in Australia. However, it was re-released in 1992, when it peaked at #8 in the UK, becoming the band's highest charting single. Weird. Guitarist Johnny Marr actually wrote the music for "This Charming Man" for an appearance on the BBC's popular John Peel (R.I.P.) Show. It was then, due to that appearance, re-recorded by the band for the single version. Except that the band didn't much care for it and re-recorded it again, which is the version that you are familiar with. I've linked to a video of the song (although I am not 100% certain that it's the official video or not.) I do hope you'll enjoy it. (Info verified by Wikipedia)
A mimed appearance on BBC's Riverside that was recorded in a disused power station in London. This video also appeared on the 1984 NME 'Video Bongo' VHS/Beta...

Was never a great fan of The Smiths, so no great surprise I missed this one. Quite distinctive though

@Ronrybs - A lot of people on here can't stand them. They're one of my favorite bands.

The funny thing about The Smiths is that there seems to be no in between, people either really like them or really don't. Kind of like Rush.

I do too. I used to sing "Suedehead" to my dog whenever I listened to it. He seemed to like it.

Just makes you wonder what could have been had Johnny Marr not left the band.

Probably not surprising. I don't think it was released as a single over here. You probably wouldn't have heard it.
