I started to watch a TV series and it's fantastic: Northern Exposure

Recently I came across a TV series named Northern Exposure and I was flabbergasted. I think it's from the late 80s or beginning of the 90s. It has a very intelligent insight in many issues and a subtle humor. It's set in Alaska but actually filmed on Washington state. Do you know this one or any similar series?
