Finishing Goals

Yesterday I had a great but exhausting day. While I was sitting in the chair discussing my current book with my hairdresser, I was quite certain I knew in which direction the next events were going to go. After all I am the author, aren't I. However, being an author is nothing when the characters are in control of the book and the action. When I passed my 80K threshold yesterday with 80,162 words, I was emotionally drained. I felt like I had been put through a wringer and hung out to dry. I got up still feeling drained. The events I pictured is not what happened. Everything went in a completely different direction than I expected. It is all good, great in fact. Just not what I was expecting from my characters. I will be going back to it in a few minutes when I finish this post. I left it yesterday in the middle of a chapter. I also want to add some icing to the cake. It's great that I made my 80K goal, but how much more can I write on this last day of the challenge. I'm about to find out. I'm guessing I'll top 85K by the end of today's writing. Today started out good. I got to the pool, which I couldn't do yesterday, so that was great! I got some shopping done afterwards, also great! And now my notifications are finished and I have the rest of the day to write and find out what my characters are going to do next. What are your plans for today? Thanks for reading. The picture is one I took yesterday when I crossed the 80K threshold.

Now that's managing goals :-) You have an accurate way to monitor your progress in making the story. I guess you knew the beginning of the story but you didn't get down to every detail, so, now, it turns to take a different direction. It's like in science, there are the starting point values, the laws of physics, and, as time goes by, the values are pretty much known with some math calculation. For example, we know the gravity constant in earth is about 9.8 meter per second^2. If there is a rock starts falling down, after two seconds, it's speed will be 9.8x2 that is 19.6 meter per second. The distance is also calculatable as a function of the time passed. That is when the air force is neglected. In your story, some factors were probably neglected and you didn't know for sure that they change the picture, so, now you learn the situation and are amazed to see what will happen next.

@stringer321 That's a good assessment. I'm a first to last page writer. I've tried doing outlines and synopsis of what the book will entail, however, the book always changed before I got too far along in it. So now, I just write the story as it takes place, day to day.

When someone put a goal and achieved it He/She can be proud of himself/herself

Who knows, haven't you ever got addicted to a game or some activity you considered your happiness ? You would probably do a lot of it more than others who consider that as a work. I bet some mylotters around here type many words without even noticing it, maybe more than 1000 words per day. If they got all day long, they like the information, the extra earning, the socialization, that's a good way to start. Look at your number inside the braces (48705 now) , that number is astronomic compares to mine. How do you do that ?

It's coming together, but isn't there yet. I did however, make it even more interesting by the end of the day yesterday.

No. If I did, I would have more books completed. November is National Novel Writer's Month, which accounts for the acronym NaNoWriMo. There is also a website by that name, from which I took that picture. They post a 50K challenge every November. I think this is the third time I've participated. I've won it each time.

It was a good kind of drained though, because I knew I had accomplished something from it. It's going, but now that November is over, I won't be quite so ambitious with it. I'll still work on it every day.

Hope the characters know what they're doing! I'm sure they do and it will be sound believable if you follow their lead.

Oh yes, I'm following their lead. Supposedly they do know what they're doing. They ooze confidence. Me, I just sit in wonder at what they are up to.

Today is early morning Sunday once again here in Jerusalem. I am going to finally mail what has had to be done and finally got done. Then come home and relax and watch TV and work on My Lot. I can imagine how that must drain you and it does help to sort things out why talking to someone else and thinking out loud.

I'm glad you got the mail taken care of and you can relax. Yes, it is good to talk to someone about what's going on in a book I'm writing. It helps get some clarity so I can move forward with the book. I'm working on it again and it's going great.
