All work and no play

Originally, I had planned to take my kids to the movies today. Yesterday I worked an 11.5 hour shift and was pretty much at work all day. I was there longer than management was. I got one half hour break in the morning and one hour long break in the afternoon. I'm awake and heading to work on my day off with less than 6 hours of sleep. Yesterday, I also got about 6 hours of sleep. I've walked over 60K steps in the last 7 days. I will go home later this afternoon and sleep til dinner time because I'm exhausted and I open tomorrow morning at work. I have to leave my home tomorrow morning at 430am all because people need that coffee or bagel at 6am.
Oh, I'm thankful to be employed and being paid time and a half for every hour of overtime is great, but man, do I miss sleeping. I have a 6 day work week this week since I'm working today on what would have been my day off. Sunday, I'm not working. I need at least one day to relax. Maybe a game night with the kids if I can't muster up the energy to take them to the movies.

I hope you can find a balance that will let you support the family and still take care of you. Good morning, friend.

Such is the nature of food service. Sometimes you don't get enough hours and sometimes you get too many.

As nice as it is that you'll get some extra money, it can't be easy to go into work on your day, especially when you didn't get as much sleep as you would like. Hopefully, you're able to get some rest and time with your family soon. You need it.

I need it though. It's hard being a single mom, but at least my bills are paid.

@acrogodess I can imagine that it’s not easy. It can be hard with two parents. So I can imagine that it’s not easy. But so long as your bills are paid and you guys are fed, that’s the important thing.

@dodo19 exactly! They have more than other people do. I tell them quality of life is not about the quantity of things you have.

I will be cooking dinner tonight to give my 14 yr old a break on cooking duties and heading to a matinee movie with the kids today. It will be a good day with the family but no rest. Lol

The only reason I'm working this hard is because I am behind on a few bills, and because sometimes I am not given enough hours so when I'm given a lot of them, I take them happily.

Is the heavy work schedule due to Christmas business?

Not really Christmas business.
I work in food service. More customers are coming in because of the colder weather for hot sandwiches and soups and of course hot tea and coffee.
Right now are also short staffed which is giving me more hours

It will be nice to have some quality family time together no matter what you decide to do.
