Good afternoon.Does anyone here hitchhiking When I was in the Navy we alway hitchhike to home Me and my buddy been doing this for some time then. this was back in the fifties.Rides were easy to come by. Then at times we had to break up for al lot of drivers do not want to pick two. Which is fine and work out nice.We never had any problem. But today.I would never ever do this again.Pretty scary this time of the year. I would not pick up anyone today.Unless I know the person. But I do not see too many on the road lately. Anyone here have any experience with this. Photo online

I've never hitchhiked. I think it would be risky to do so today.

Yes, at one time hitchhiking was common but these days you rarely see one anymore. It is much too dangerous.

I have never hitched hiked. My Dad, has told me the story of how he and two friends hitch hiked to Florida from Georgia during one Spring Break way back in the day when he was in High School. Those were the days when more did it, when it was less dangerous.

I've written a post on my hitch-hiking days.
My hitch-hiking days were in the 1960s, a time when most of the members weren´t born yet. Was it a safe way of travelling then or at least safer than today? I...

When I was a teen I used to hitch hike, it was so dangerous but we never got hurt. Even the police would pull over and give us a ride home I am sure it scared my father when the police pulled up but ys they were kind and would offer us a ride.

Yes, I used to hitch-hike too, sometimes even on my own. And I used to offer rides to hitch-hikers, especially young overseas tourists who were easily identifiable.

@amadeo there wasn't until recent years. You wouldn't do it now of course. Young backpacker tourists were usually safe to pick up and often we spent time with them or even offered them accommodation. Now most most tourists travel by public transport.

I have never hitch-hiked - my mother always warned me off when I was growing up. Nowadays it is quite rare to see hitch-hikers at all.

We still pick up hitch-hikers but we are careful who we pick up. It isn't really recommended any more but as long as you're careful I think it can be safe.

I hitchhiked when I was younger, but now you never know who would pick you up and if you would make it to your destination. I don't do it anymore. I would rather be safe than sorry.

it is not a norm in our country. Maybe because it can be very dangerous. I tried it once though, i was with a friend and it was quite close. The driver was very nice

I confess that I did hitchhiked in my early twenties. What a fool! I am just lucky that nothing bad ever happened to my friends and I.

Times have changed, I would never pick up someone and I would never dare to ask to someone to pick me up.

When I was a young teenager, I did hitchhike a few times. Hitchhiking was more common at the time, though. I never felt safe, so I quit while I was ahead.
