Welcome to December

Here we are on the first day of December. The name of this month was derived from the Latin word decem meaning ten. In the ancient Roman calendar this was the 10th month. The Zodiac signs are Sagittarius and Capricorn. The flowers of the month are the holly and the narcissus and the birthstones are the ruby, the turquoise and the zircon. The origin of the word holly comes from the Old English word holegn. It has now become a traditional Christmas decoration. Funny that it should be part of a winter month but the more common name of the narcissus is the daffodil. Who was born in December?

Amazing how many words in Western languages have roots in Latin and Greek.

I always wondered how it would be if we kept to the Roman calendar and only had 10 month. I mean the year goes by so quickly as it is @JohnRoberts
