This can go on sometimes until the ear of corn is bare. Go up the tree, get a piece of corn, go down the tree, bury it. Repeat until done.
Up the tree...get some corn...down the tree...bury the corn...up the tree...get some corn...down the tree...bury the corn...up the tree...

They are busy, storing food for the bitter, cold winter months:) My grandma and mother use to do the same exact thing, storing food in mason jars!

I haven't seen one burying his food so found it fascinating the way he digs the little hole, pops the corn in and fills the hole again even patting down the soil and spreading leaves over it. He seems to nibble on the kernel first though. Any idea what that's all about?

Sometimes it did, sometimes it didn't. It was like it couldn't decide whether to eat it or bury it.

@JolietJake I was like that picking apples. We could eat as many as we liked but most were all just perfect. it was hard not to have a nibble at lots of them.

They say you never see a fat squirrel (because of all this exercise). Whoever “they” are, they’ve never seen mine. I have squirrels fat enough to feed an inbred family with some Squirrel Helper in Arkansas.

I guess they don't realize that you'll keep putting food out for them all winter.
