Pigeon Arrested for Espionage

Just found an interesting article about animals that were actually arrested or detained for wrong doing. The first story has to do with a hapless pigeon that was arrested because it was thought that it was a spy. The poor pigeon was arrested in 2015 when it was discovered that on his body was a stamped message written in Urdu which is Pakistan’s official language, along with a Pakistani phone number. The pigeon had landed in a village that was close to the border between India and Pakistan. The region of Kashmir is claimed by both countries and has often been the place of military clashes and infiltration. It was a 14 year old boy who found the poor pigeon and since the bird looked suspicious the boy turned it over to the authorities. Officials took the pigeon to a veterinary hospital but even though they could not find any definite evidence of the bird being a spy they arrested it anyway. This story makes me visualize that cartoon bird Tweety who was always caged and threatened by a cat. What do you think should they have let that pigeon go?

Carrier pigeons were used during the war to carry messages. Several were even awarded a medal (was it the Blue Cross?) for their bravery.

The people responsible for arresting the pigeon should be committed to an asylum.

It was just unlucky that this pigeon had the information written on him. If he had just had a message attached then he probably would not have been arrested @JohnRoberts

That information has probably been withheld in the interest of National Security.

They could have scraped off the phone number, then let it go.

Now that is the right way to think. Clean up the pigeon and let him go @1creekgirl I would be afraid to find out what happened to this pigeon since this was back in 2015. I sure hope it worked out for him but it could have been a bad fate.
