'Locks of Love, Refused My Long Hair'

A couple months ago, I wrote a discussion about donating my very, long hair to 'Locks of Love.' This is an organization that accepts long, locks of hair, to make wigs for people who have lost their hair, because of a traumatic illness. Many who are diagnosed with cancer, end up losing their hair while going through intense, kemo-therapy treatments. I donated my long hair one time and felt pretty good about it. This time, the beautician said that I couldn't donate, because I've used permanent coloring on my hair. It has to be untouched by any dye or peroxide, which I didn't know:( Oh well, that's all right! I will just keep my hair, even though I'm a bit disappointed about this

@kobesbuddy I'm sorry they wouldn't accept it. If you get it made into a toupee I'll take it.

@Berniezeitler Hey, this is a great idea! it's a much better cause, without cancer involved:( And my hair would probably make about four toupees I'm in business again!

That's too bad they wouldn't accept it. Good intention on your part, though.

Thanks, I was disappointed but, that's O.K. because Jay prefers it long, anyway!

Maybe it's only Locks of Love, that have this rule. Other companies might do things different.

My auburn/dark brown hair got a rejection notice! LOL They dye the hair, once they get it. If it's already colored, it ruins the hair to do it over again.

@kobesbuddy What the heck is wrong with the color of the hair when it's given? Do you think the people that 'need' the wig give a hoot?

@nanette64 They wouldn't care, but the chemicals could affect their sick body.

I did not know that. I could not donate my hair either.

They intend on dying the hair, once they get it. If it's already colored, it ruins the hair to do it again.

I think only a beautician could determine that, what is accepted and what isn't.

At least you tried and I didn't know that they wouldn't take it like that either.

There is another charity out there that takes hair regardless of whether it has been coloured or not. I just did a search and Children With Hair Loss accepts all hair donations even if the hair has been dyed at some point if you're still interested in donating.

That is a disappointment. Did they say why they don't accept treated hair?

It's because of the chemicals in the dye. @allen0187

Oh wow! I’m so sorry they refused your hair. They needed a virgin one. I remember you writing about donating it. I have no idea why it has to be virgin hair but I’m sure they have good reasons.

Their reason is, they dye the hair once they get it. If it's already dyed, this will ruin the hair, to do this over again.

@toniganzon I hadn't dyed my hair for about a year. Last week, I got some coloring and did it again, it looks much better:)

@kobesbuddy it’s nice when you have pretty colors. Just put some treatment on so it won’t get damaged.

It makea sense that they wouldn't take it if it had been dyed. I guess.

After they take the hair, it gets dyed. Dye over top of dye, ruins the texture and durability.

@UncleJoe Years back, I put my hair in teeny tiny braids for Halloween and went to work. The one lady asked, 'Is that your real hair?' A man asked, 'Why are you dressed like that?' I told him, I wanted to look odd. Ed replied, 'You do!'

It might be because of chemicals in the hair that could cause one of these people an allergic reaction. I know when they go through all the treatments that their immune system is shot and they get sick so easily.

That's why 're-dying' it doesn't make any sense to me @poehere .

@nanette64 It has something to do with chemicals in the dye. They are toxic.
