How many of you have had your tontonsils taken out?

This post came out of something ElusiveButterfly said in a post. I have never had problems with my tonsils and still have them in. I am way past the kids stage to get them out. I heard that when you are an adult it is harder to take them out or something like that. I hope I will have mine the rest of my life.

When I was a kid, it seemed to be a fad that the docs took the kid's tonsils out. Both me and my brother had ours out. I still have the teddy bear from that time!!

I wonder how they used to manage such things when surgeries were not in vogue.

I can imagine Patsie. So they took yours out at age 6. You were young. Do you feel anything in the back of your throat where they were?

@Hannihar they weren't that frequent. My wife used to get them frequently and almost needed to have them taken out, but thankfully magically she got well.

I heard Josh Groban doesn't have them i still have mine though, which is good since if they are taken out, we would be more prone to sickness

I had mine taken out when I was a child of ten. All of my kids still have their tonsils.

I find a lot of Americans undergo a lot of treatment. There are very few Indians who lose their tonsils early on.

It was pretty much the done thing for kids of my generation to have their tonsils removed and mine were at about 9 or 10 I guess.

@Hannihar Perhaps I got a lot of sore throats. I don't really remember. I used to get 'run-down' at the end of each school year and Mum would put me on a tonic so I don't know if that had something to do with it.

Judy, was something wrong that they removed them or they just did it?

Oh my god...I am an adult, and I have my tonsils intact. I hope god does not put me through all that pain, if it is likely to be painful, ever..

I've never had mine out. I didn't know it was harder to take them out as an adult tho.

@Hannihar Not really. I do wind up with a lingering cough, but I usually see a doctor, and it's from a cold.
