Can washing the face at night blur the eyesight?

My mom always told me not to wash my face at night since that is the reason her eyesight became bad at an early age. But upon research, there is no scientific basis to that. Do you believe in it or do you wash your face even when your eyes are tired?

I've never heard of that. I know when I wear make-up - rare event - I need to wash my face before I go to bed.

How did washing the face at night affect her eyes? I would believe that it is just a myth.

@lady1993 Now you say something that you did not explain she used SOAP! She could have been allergic to a specific kind of soap or she was not careful enough to avoid soap in her eyes, this is dangerous, not washing the face.

I never heard of it. It's better to wash your face at night and then sleep.

This is an old superstition and I never heard about it. Of course I wash my face every evening before going to sleep.

I am not really sure if this is a superstition since my mom experienced it herself though

@lady1993 Your mother has an eye problem for sure, because all people I know wash their face before going to bed, if you do not, the pores of your skin are closed during the night and you develop skin problems.

@lady1993 That's hilarious or sad, it depends on the way you look at this remark. Your mother's eye problems have certainly nothing to do with washing her face or not. Why don't you consult an eye specialist?

@lady1993 well, I do but, that was prescribed to me long before I started cleaning my face every night. I remember I was 12 back then when I went to doctor about my eyes.

That is an odd thing to say to someone, but I suppose someone told her that was true. You are right to not believe it though. It's simply not true, and very bad for your skin if you don't.

I also heard of that with my mom. Maybe it's bad for the nerves better to relax our eyes or face first before splashing it with cold water

It's incredible what nonsense people believe. The Middle Ages are over! It's certainly not good for your skin if you don't clean it and put cream on it before you go to bed.

As your research showed, there is no scientific basis. Bad eyesight may be hereditary and/or over taxing our eyes like watching too much TV, reading with improper lighting and nutrition deficiency.

This is an old wives tale and there is no proof that doing so can weaken one's eye sight.

I have never heard of such a thing. It cleans our face and get rids of dust and germs. We get good sleep when we wash our face before bedtime. I wash my face when I am tired also.
