I have a feeling that there is going to be no in between with #8 in my Favorite "Real People" Songs series (songs with real people in the title.) I think you're either going to like it or you aren't. The eighth spot belongs to "Billy Preston" by Miles Davis. "Billy Preston" is the final track on Davis' 1974 compilation album, Get Up with It, which features tracks recorded by the jazz legend from 1970 to 1974, during sessions for the albums Jack Johnson and On the Corner. This 12-minute ditty is straight out of Miles' electric fusion period, performed by the same band that made Davis' 1974 live album, In Concert. It is very indicative of Get Up with It, which noted critic Robert Christgau said "sometimes sounds like (B.S.)" In other words, like I said, you are either going to dig it or take a pass. I dig it. I've linked to the album version. This one is challenging, but I do hope you enjoy it. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

Christgau should have written for Trouser Press. He didn’t like anything, either.

I know. It's just like getting sneered at by record store guy no matter what it is that you're buying. It's like, what are you listening to? Because I want to hear it.

The Kind of Blue album is a good place to start. Widely considered the best jazz album ever made.

This sounds like background music to a detective movie from the 70's. I'm not a big fan of this kind of music, though I can see that it is a quality song.

Now that you mention it, it kind of does sound a little like that.
