There was a care plan meeting for my dad at the nursing home today. They will release him on Friday. He will go live with my brother at least for now.His insurance does not pay for long term care. He is doing much better, except he falls. The medication issue is somewhat resolved. My brother is having some health issues and is going to quit working at Wal Mart, at least for now. Dad needs someone with him to help him not fall. He is weak. My brother, Robin, says Dad is less and less confused, so that is good. As for me. . . I am breathing better this evening. I am using a saline spray really frequently to help with my stuffy head. We had baked fish portions that had been in the freezer a while. I cooked them all up. Leftovers will be fish sandwiches for hubby and me tomorrow. Energy is in short supply, but I think we can handle this for the next eleven days. Good night, myLot. Have a great day tomorrow.

I am not trying to poke my nose in your business but I have noticed that pain pills and the elderly DO NOT go together, they make them dizzy, then the falls start. Make sure he gets off those. I am so glad you are better.

This is a wonderful suggestion, Andria. My mother didn't start falling, until the doctor put her on pain medication! Then, she fell about four times:(

@kobesbuddy @andriaperry I think dad is off of almost all of his meds except for diabetes and blood pressure. You are correct, pain meds affect the elderly more strongly. He had a fall in June, and was given the pain pills. He just kept refilling them because he does have quite a bit of pain, but they were not helping. Yes, he was overmedicated and there was no one with authority to intervene for him.

I am glad your father is less confused and he will stay with your brother. For the moment my Mom cannot quit the hospital.

@GardenGerty My brother goes to check every day, as he is a doctor, knows some of those who work there, I hope this helps. When I have talked to my Mom last Sunday she told me that the nurses are very nice.

I wish you all well. It can be very hard to stop people from falling. I was standing next to my Mum when she leaned a bit too far one way and down she went. There was no way I could have prevented it.

Part of the issue is old injuries, part of it is that he is weak from pneumonia, and he is just old. @shaggin yes, in the nursing homes they teach you not to try to "catch" someone who is falling, but to help them to the floor gently.

Sometimes when you try to prevent it you get hurt yourself in the process as well.

Most people do not realize that Medicare and Medicare replacement policies do not cover long term care. Medicaid only kicks in when you have exhausted all of your personal resources. I do not have long term care insurance and neither does my husband. So I guess we had best get healthy and stay healthy.

Where is your dad's wife right now? Is she going to rehab? Or did you already say, and I forgot?

That is wonderful your brother is going to move in with your father to help keep an eye on him. How sad his insurance won’t cover long term care. I’m not sure what the insurance is thinking he can’t care for himself but he can’t go in a home!

No, he will move into my brother's home. In order to insure for long term care you have to take a separate policy. Now when all of his resources are spent Medicaid will kick in, but that will be at least two years.

That saline spray is fantastic stuff. Insurance is sure a hard thing to deal with at times. Best wishes for your Dad.

That's wonderful your brother will be home, with your father. As he recuperates, your Dad will be able to do more for himself. Your dinner sounds delicious, I love baked fish!

My brother has had back surgery a few years ago and sometimes has pain. His job he retired from had him sitting too much and that is not good. Lately he is having dizzy spells and is being treated for that.
