Eye-Opener

Today has been a real MyLot eye-opener for me. It has made me aware that my normal posting content has been my downfall. Nobody truly realizes how much time and effort I have tried to put into entertaining and uplifting material. I feel a calling to make others laugh a little and not take life so seriously. I have even posted about lack of attention and few responses. Only a handful of friends tend to “dig” my sense of humor. However, after making two back-to-back posts about my failing health, they have generated more responses than my last 20 posts put together. It’s obvious that most only respond to more serious topics. After crunching the numbers I have learned a valuable lesson. I can’t wait to see how many responses I get when I actually croak.

I think most people love your sense of humor! I think maybe people can just relate to health issues more because so many have those on Mylot. Don't stop your funny discussions-some of us need some cheering up at times!

Although actually it depends at times on how deep your serious posts go. The myLot audience can be a finicky critter.

I've noticed the same thing, with my posts. The things I think are funny or witty or unusual hardly get any responses. But when I write about having to move or my husband changing jobs or something "serious", I get more comments. As an aside, I prefer to ribbet. Croaking is so last year!

I get the opposite. Any serious 'deep' posts I make get ignored, while I have 'fluff' I just toss out there take off like a rocket.

When i have written serious posts, i am told "too serious".... and then some people, even rhose qho say that they "love" me, do not respond unless they respond to something I'm responding to that they've written. Finicky Critters, indeed.

@UncleJoe Are you kidding? Mylot wouldn't be the same with you gone. Humor especially would all have to fall on @JolietJake shoulders.

It's the soap-opera syndrome. People here seem to want DRAMA. Personally, I prefer to keep my drama to myself.

@Platespinner I don't label everyday occurrences and serious health issues, as DRAMA.

I saw this post because it was suggested to me! But I don't know if posting the same general thing can be anyones downfall (maybe I'm wrong), I just tend to follow people that I feel like there could be a connection in things we are interested in or share similar ideas. I don't care to really read about sports, for example, so why would I follow someone who only talks about that? I'm sorry about your health. I hope things improve a lot!

Some days I could write about a terminal illness and I have two weeks to live, with very little response. The next day, I could post about the exact same thing and get 50 comments! It all depends upon who's online at the time, who reads the material, and how many members are logged into this site. The day of the week makes a big difference, also.

I am here because one of your mylot friends sent your post about your health through the suggestion selection to me. This is the second one of yours she sent me today. These must be the posts that get suggested more. Thus, more responses.
