Learning to Swim--Final Lesson: Day 9

A little over a hour on this grey and crisp afternoon, I had my final swim lesson with Rachel. When I arrived there, I told her my decision, since we had to wait for someone to free up a lane for up. I've told her that I had a conflict last week, and this was our last lesson together. I've informed her that I wanted to stay on with my one-on-one lessons, though the winter would be tricky due to the winter when I walk. She understood that. And then she said she wanted to stay in touch with me to see how I'm progressing with her. That made me happy to have her as a new friend. She's going to let my gym's aquatics manage know to look for a good and new swim instructor for me and what we've learned in class. Then we did a recap of what I've learned since mid-October: The Glides--no problem there. Front Stroke: Although I wanted to make it one lap without stopping and breathing fine, I came close to it. So it would be good enough for me and for now. We also practiced using the barbell with breathing at the wall and then in the water. The same for floating on the back and then doing it on my stomach. I'm getting there even with the transitions. I did do half a lap to the chair and stopped, and then made it the rest of the way. I hope to get there eventually. (I might have to practice this on my own, while I wait to be reassigned for next year's lessons.) Backstrokes: I did two laps with the elementary backstroke and had a smooth transition. I also did the regular backstroke and was fast on my back with a rough transition. In the end, I did 1/3rd of the lap and then transitioned to the end. That was about it. I did learn that Rachel started her new job this week. She'll be working with autistic children in the pool. It's something she's real excited about it. I did thank her for refining my swimming, though she's impressed on how far I've progresed since day one. I told her it was nice to meet her and work with her and then we said goodbye. In the meantime, I'll be practicing my swim lessons on and off and will resume a week from Friday, depending on the weather. Like I said on Friday afternoon, if I hear anything new on resuming new swim lessons for next year from my gym, I'll keep you posted.

That is sweet she is going to be working with autistic children in the pool. That could be a very difficult job.

Aww it's never too late to learn to swim. Make it a resolution for 2018.

I hope you find a good new teacher when you're ready to continue with your lessons.

Me too Judy. It probably won't be until after the holidays, if I don't hear back in two weeks this month.

Yes indeed. Except for water aerobics.
