I've been polishing brass today

Before we got quite so old, we had a pair of harness ponies that we drove in competitions. I drove the ponies and Vince was my groom. Eventually it all became more work than pleasure and we found a good home for the ponies.
We have sold almost everything to do with our carriage driving days except for a set of hand-made harness. We’re now about to advertise the harness on an appropriate Facebook group page. So today I’ve been polishing dozens of brass buckles. I cleaned the harness some time ago but the brass components needed an extra polish.
This is about the nicest photo I have of the ponies. The one on the far side is Burgundy and the closest one is Fabian. They were Welsh C ponies. Aren’t they beautiful?

What kind of competitions? Not a race?

Polishing brass is tough. We had so much of polishing to do - gifts that we received. Sold them all.
That is a lovely photo.

I always shudder when I see people with lots of silver trophies in their lounge. So much polishing to do! I'm glad you like the photo.

@jaboUK I've been going through all my old "Carriage Driving" magazines and then I'm going to give them to a friend who is still driving. They are from 1996- 1998. It's been interesting seeing who was driving then etc. I haven't really followed results either here or in England but then I went online and it seems Boyd Exell (Australian) is now the World Champion. He is based in the UK.

It might seem strange but it would have hurt too much to see them when they weren't mine any longer. I did hear from others that they were well and happy.

Wow, that's pretty amazing that you did this. Those horses are beautiful and their coats are so shiny. They seem a bit large to be called ponies.

That must have been hard to sell the ponies they are lovely. I hope you get a good price for all your harnesses.

It was hard to part with them as they were very special to us but as I said, it became a lot of work and rather than have them sitting idly in the paddock I found them a good home.
