I’m still caught up in talking about recycling, because I feel strongly about the subject. People have been making GLASS for at least 3500 years. From what is glass made? Most glass is made from three basic ingredients. White sand, soda and lime. These ingredients are heated to about 2,500 degrees F until they are transparent and completely dissolved. Then the mixture is cooled. Every year , we throw away about 28 BILLION glass bottles and jars. We need to recycle all these glass containers. I think that there should be a "bottle bill" (like there used to be) which would require consumers to pay deposits on bottles and then refund the deposits when the bottles are returned. I remember, as a child, my brother and I loved to take soft drink bottles back to the store because we got to keep the refund for ourselves. Who knew?

I do recycle glass as well as plastic and aluminum containers. In California, there is a CRV fee that can be redeemed. Unlike plastic, as least tossed glass will break and eventually be ground down. Personally I think we should return to the past with all containers being glass (no plastic, aluminum, whatever) then we only have to deal with glass which is the easiest for reuse etc.

That would be a good idea really - to only have glass.

Yes, it would be a GREAT idea to use only glass, but its heavier for one thing and more fragile for shipping.

Glass gets recycled here and through France there were bottle banks everywhere - usually with separate bins for the different coloured glass.

I see some sort of recycling banks on the right of the page here. They should be everywhere.
