When I looked back on 2017 and inquired about the talented singers that we lost the list is like walking down memory lane. This certainly make that rock and roll band in the sky quite large and perhaps this New Year’s Eve we might hear them all playing up there in the heavens. • On January 24 Butch Trucks, one of the founders of the Allman Brothers Band committed suicide. He was 69. • On January 28 Black Sabbath keyboard player Geoff Nicholls lost his battle with lung cancer. He was 68. • On February 12 Grammy award winning jazz musician Al Jarreau died in a LA hospital. He was 76. • On February 11 Drummer and hip hop creator Clyde Stubblefield died of kidney failure. He was 73. • February 12 Jazz guitarist Larry Coryell passed away. He was 73. • March 18 Rock and roll pioneer Chuck Berry died at the age of 90. • March 22 Boston drummer Sib Hashian died while he was performing on a ship sailing for the Bahamas. He was 67. • May 1 Bruce Hampton also known as Col. Bruce Hampton Ret collapsed while on stage. He was 70. • May 18 Singer/songwriter Chris Cornell, the front man for Soundgarden and Audioslave died after a concert. He was 52. • May 27 Greg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band. He was 69. • July 20 Chester Bennington the frontman for rock band Linkin Park. He committed suicide. He was 41. • August 8 country singer Glen Cambell from Alzheimer’s. He was 81. • September 3 Walter Becker, the co-founder of Steely Dan. He was 67. • September 8 American country singer Don Williams died due to problems with emphysema. He was 78. • September 8 Troy Gentry of the country duo Montgomery Gentry. He dies in a helicopter crash. He was 50. • September 13 Jessi Zazu, lead singer of the Nashville alt-rock group Those Darlins lost her battle with cervical cancer. She was 28. • September 13 Grant hart, drummer and singer of Husker Du lost his battle with cancer. He was 56. • September 23 soul singer Charles Bradley from liver and stomach cancer. He was 68. • October 2 singer Tom Petty from massive cardiac arrest. He was 66. • October 17 Gordon Downie, the lead singer of the Tragically Hip from terminal brain cancer. He was 53. • October 21 Martin Eric Ain, the bassist for metal bands Celtic Frost and Hellhammer of a heart attack. He was 50. • October 24 singer and pianist Fats Domino. He was 89. • November 6 singer Robert Knight from a brief illness. He was 72. • November 15 rapper Lil Peep from an overdose of Xanax. He was 21. • November 18 AC/DC co-founder and guitarist Malcom Young. He had dementia. He was 64. • November 19 country singer Mel Tillis. He was 85. • November 19 singer and actress Della Reese. She was 86. • November 21 soul singer Wayne Cochran lost his battle with cancer. He was 78. • November 22 singer and actor David Cassidy from complications of dementia. He was 67. • November 22 Tommy Keene, pop and New Wave songwriter. He was 59. • November 30 singer and actor Jim Nabors. He was 87. R.I.P and their music will live on forever. Let’s count our blessings.

Quite a list. I didn't realize that so many great artists passed away in 2017. But their music will live on forever as you wrote.
