Our dear Mylotter @JolietJake better be prepared with his camera in January as there will be 3 full/new moons to photograph. January 1: full moon at 9:24 pm EST; January 16th: new moon at 9:17 pm EST and January 31st: full moon at 8:27 pm EST. At least it ain't 2 or 3 in the morning. Oh wait, that's when Scar wants out anyway. Go for it JJ, we'll be looking forward to those photos.
Full Moons for January 2018: The Full Wolf Moon & Blue Moon. When is the next Full Moon? Plus moon phases, best days, and more from The Old Farmers Almanac.

I've never successfully photographed a new moon since there is nothing to shoot.

Now JJ honey, you mean you don't have a 'special' camera that would light that sucker up? @JolietJake .

I am a happy camper that we figured it out; although why it happened I don't know. We absolutely do like each other; after all you're my Auntie Malu.

@nanette64 I know the expression 'a happy camper' but wonder where it comes from. From the age of 12 to 20 I did a lot of camping. I enjoyed it very much. But I must say that it never crossed my mind to talk about this positive experience in other contexts

My mom and dad taught us a song when we were kids. Every time I hear the word "moon" I start singin' that one.

I'd never heard of that one @Corbin5 . The only one I ever remember was "The Light of the Silvery Moon".

Probably just as well the Jan 1st one isn't in the early hours - except for those walking home from a party!

Yeah, no kidding @Fleura ; they'll probably be staring at the ground to keep from falling over.

Sounds interesting. I will have to see if we can catch those moons here in Latvia too.

I've never got a decent picture of the moon yet. It just comes out as a blob.
