Batteries. . . they are out to get me

My van has a dome light that will come on and stay on, unless you override it. You guessed it. . . it drained my car battery. Hubby had to drive the ten miles to rescue me. He drove the offending vehicle home as there was another issue I wanted him to check out. I got us Reuben sandwiches at Subway. We ate our sandwiches, and I came over to this part of the house. I heard an ear piercing screeching whistle sound. Hubby cannot hear the upper ranges, so I do not know if it had started earlier or not. I just know that I had to become a detective. It was the carbon monoxide detector. Luckily, it was only making that sound due to dead batteries. Batteries give us lots of options, and they drive me crazy.

Most of the time the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors only scream because the batteries are out and this is a good thing.

@LadyDuck I wish they could come up with a simple fix for that problem.

@GardenGerty This is the problem with those things, they make the same sound to warn of the problem and to inform than the batteries are out.

I am only glad it went off as that proves it is working. The batteries lasted a long time.

The carbon monoxide detector really does it work! You have to get the dome light fixed up.

Yes, I know of people who were saved by those detectors. I am glad mine was just batteries, though.

@changjiangzhibin89 This detector is for the house. I do not believe you can get one for the car. It is important to get the car emissions system checked regularly.

now that we are not using the car and the battery has been charged multiple times, i let my son remove the connection in the positive end of the battery. it works especially now that it is cold- the battery should not drain at all.

That would be a good solution for a vehicle that is seldom used.

For some reason, I noticed that batteries don't last as long as they used to.

It depends on the brand. Of course the really good ones cost more.

Yes. I was glad that the sound quit when I changed the batteries. I also now know it works.

Oh thank goodness it was the battery getting low and not actually that your home was filling with carbon monoxide.

Yes. My son and daughter in law had a real malfunction once. It could have killed them.

I really hate it when I hear an upper range whistle and I can't figure out where it is coming from and yes batteries do drive me crazy.

Well good that it was only the batteries but yes, it is kind of difficult to stay on top of batteries. I have a recharger and it helps a lot so I always have ready to go batteries on hand.

I had a recharger long ago, but felt the batteries did not last and it was not very effective. Like everything else the technology is probably better now and I should look into getting one.

It becomes a worry when people become deaf enough to miss things. I will hear sounds now in the car that Vince won't and I have to try to explain them.

Bob can hear those kinds of sounds. It is mostly the higher range, and people speaking.
